I debated this. They are all forward facing, largely for aesthetics. The drivers weigh ~130 lbs. The enclosures weigh ~200. Having the center of mass be 3 inches further back should not be that bad, but I resigned myself that if it was, I would use the front spike holes to actually bolt them to the floor. I am a bit nervous for it though...

Fantastic build. Just a short question while we celebrate Christmas Eve in Norway; which amplifier from Rythmic do you want to use? Do they have one that can drive all six drivers? For example, will the H600PEQ3 be able to do that?

The HX800 will power 6 drivers (3 from each channel). So I am planning 2 of those right now. I thought really hard about just doing 4 of the AQ series but I have a suspicion the HX will be available sooner, and likely is plenty of power.

Alright - after the auto shop backed out of painting these babies, I have them back from a furniture refinishing specialist

7 layers of white lacquer. Now the build continues!

It is hard to capture them in photos, but the white is amazing. I will get better photos later.

Fantastic. These are exactly the ones I want, and which I will buy as soon as I get to buy a new house. Where did you get drawings for the Subtowers, have you measured them yourself, or are the drawings available somewhere?

Dude Noah that is going to be one hell of a setup. Hopefully no broken windows when you turn the volume to 11.

The white cabinets will look super clean. I'm excited to see how this turns out.

My 8 year old daughter's room is above them, and she keeps talking about how she will never be able to sleep again.

Where are you planning on getting your HX800 amps from if you don’t mind me asking? I thought they were discontinued a while ago (?).

GR does not list then on the site but recommended them for the situation and took my order by email. Unfortunately everything is back ordered...

They're still making them, but the chips used in the servo amps are scarce and its taking ages to get more amps in general, both HX & A370 units.

I use two of the HX300-12OB servo amps per side with my pair of 6x12's. I prefer them to the HX800's. Rythmik Audio stopped making them, as a HX4xx series servo amp is supposed to be released.

Still waiting on news of new HX4xx production. Hopefully parts will be available soon.

I appreciate you sharing this. Can you qualify what you like more? Also, why HX instead of AQ if you are doing 2 a side?

I admit that this is the main place I feel I am shortcutting right now, so I am pretty open to advice.

I tried the HX800's with the 6x12's but could not get the frequency response high enough to mate to my planars at 200Hz with their filter response. The frequency response controls on the HX300-12OB would since the upper response goes to 200Hz. This depends on what you are mating them to. They would be fine for normal sub range.

My pair of HX800's also had mechanical transformer hum that I heard in my very quiet listening room. The HX300's do not. It was not a power line problem.

Less power output than the HX800's but that has not been a problem. The power output difference between the two HX300's and one HX800 is about 1.2dB.

Rather than editing that last line - I am leaving it for comedic effect.

HAL - as a master of DSP and active crossovers, what is your opinion of how those will work for me if I use a MiniDSP for the crossover work earlier in the chain.

The HX300 does not have an AVR mode like the HX800, it has both a 12dB/Oct and 24dB/Oct low pass filter switch with the 200Hz max setting.

I have not worked with the MiniDSP for crossovers, so I cannot say how it would work. Last unit I used was the Behringer DCX2496 that has been replaced in my setup.

The systems that I have used are the Danville Signal Processing dspMusik 2x8 and dspNexus 2x8 prototype. Both sound very good for the entire music spectrum. The newer dspNexus has replaced the dspMusik as it has improved DAC's and Class A audio output stages with the higher throughput DSP processor. I feed the HX300's with two of the DAC channels and they are DC coupled for really good bass sound. They are fully balanced outputs and the HX300 has a MiniXLR for balanced input. I just use a balanced splitter to run both per channel.
