Well UPS tried to deliver the package today but they wanted $21 in a check and my wife can't write checks yet out of my checkbook so they will have to come back tomorrow.  That really sucks!  We have to pay $21 for customs.   :(

It would probably be fair to deduct unusual charges like that from the final recovered price and reimburse Josh or anyone else that had to pay considerable more than the rest of us.

So, out of curiosity, is that a tax or some other form of excessive fee to the US govt, or does it go to UPS?

I'm sorry to hear about the customs fee Josh, I didn't have to pay anything comming across this way. When I do get dinged for customs for a U.S order it's called a "brokerage fee" and is usually only $20-$25 Canadian. I'd be happy to split the cost with you. I feel bad that I'm the only Canadian on the list and it ended up costing you more because of it.

Mark,

Do be sorry, its not your faults....its your government's! J/K, actually I bet it is customs we infer on CA imports.  We'll see how it works out.

Josh, I think you'll find that it is your government that is collecting your money.

Mark,

I am pretty sure you are right.

I have had the Dezorel plugged into my system all weekend.  While I still need to do some more testing to be sure of my results, my first impressions are that coupled together with the Bolder Quantum power strip the Dezorel adds nothing, or at least nothing worth noting.  It should be noted however that I experienced no AC power problems all weekend like I typically have.  I even ran the dishwasher with the system still on (while doing work around the house) which usually causes me major problems even with the bolder power strip.  No problems were experienced.  Did the Dezorel lower the noise floor?  Couldn't tell but maybe its benefit is more in the random AC problems rather than the common mode noise.  Who knows, will need to do more testing before I sign off on a ranking.  Tax season has slowed my evals down a bit.

Josh,

Happy listening.  I think that others (DAM?) failed to hear much of a difference when both the Bolder Quantum and DeZorel were used a the same time, but that each on its own had an impact.

Jay,

Will have to check that out.  I haven't been reading this read except for to see where we were at in the list.  I didn't want to bias my listening results based on what others had already written.  I have a few more tests to run and then I will post my results.  It doesn't seem to do all that much but maybe that is a good thing from an AC filter?

Shipping costs...

I shipped it to MarkC in Canada via FedEx International Economy. I did it online via a credit card and it didn't show the charges. Imagine my surprise when I checked the transactions and found FedEx had nailed me $76.00 for shipping.  :o I imagine that's why Mark didn't have to pay customs charges.

Man, I'm sorry about that Mgalusha. I can't understand why it would cost so much. I only paid $65 to have my dual mono shipped from Indy. I did however get a bill from Fedex for $25. $20 tax and $5 advancment fee-whatever that is. I have to call them about the tax thing, seeing as how I didn't purchase anything. I'd be happy to split the cost with you.

That can't possibly be right.

You didn't go through a third party, did you? When I sold my CDP I'd looked on the FedEx site for an estimate. FedEx said it was going to be around $23 to ship. I took it to a place not far from my house (like a Mailboxes Etc. type place) and they charged me $48. Went back home and checked the FedEx site again as I then had the accurate dimensions & weight. FedEx stated that it'd only cost $23 to ship. The $25 was a "handling" charge tacked on by the shipping place.

So I went back, got the package back, and took it to FedEx myself so I didn't have to pay they're 110+% service charge.

Nope, no third party. I did it all on FedEx's web site and dropped it off at the local FedEx service center.

I may have gotten gouged because I listed it's original country of origin. Hard to say. In any case, I'm not going to worry about it.

As I said earlier, I think it's only fair that you and Josh get reimbursed from the pot once the DeZorel is sold.

Mike, which country of origin did you list? I hope you said USA and not Yugoslavia. If Yugo, I wonder what the effect on the cost is, and whether you'd be able to get a partial refund.

Jerry,

I listed Yugoslavia since that was it's country of origin. I was going to list the US but since the original import papers were in the box stating Yugoslavia and if customs decided to inspect the shipment... I suspect that is responsible for most of the cost.

As mentioned, I'm not going to worry about it. I just chalked it up to experience and moved on.  :|

Mike, you should have confounded them by stating the country of origin as "Serbia and Montenegro", which is indeed the new name of the country, although it has been in effect after the unit was made and sent there.

But it would sure give them a headache. :P

For equitable compensation,  we could compute each person's total cost (audition deposit + shipping charges) as a percentage of the final selling price, and reimburse participants based on this percentage.
