You mean the stock markets?
TSX was shutdown earlier. "Tech Glitch".
Relax. That's just a normal market correction. Overdue.

It's a serious question about the performance of Manic Moose 2.36.  You may think it's a joke.  I do not.  The unwillingness of Bryston's talking heads to seriously entertain anything but glowing puffery about their products and software is disappointing.  I've complained for two years about problems with Manic Moose.  There are serious problems, and it's high time Bryston confronted them seriously.

How does Manic Moose cause a data base crash? Where do you store your music on the BDP-3?

I have no idea what Manic Moose are, those error msg you posted can refer to any branch of equipment.

Hi FullRangeMan,

This is a Bryston forum, hence it's contextually understood that this is referring to the Bryston BDP players.  :D

People have also discussed other operating systems and digi players on this forum. Comparisons, etc. So, it's all fair. The title could have been more specific than it is.

I don't think we don't want to talk about bugs; we do quite regularly and we acknowledge them in the release notes for our new firmware updates.  You also need to be willing to install the firmware updates, not doing any firmware updates and sticking to the same firmware revision you can't expect it to just change.  We've released three updates since the version you've installed, to say we haven't done anything over the last few years isn't quite fair.  If your experiencing a problem, post about, email us about it or call us about, we are one of the few companies that allow our end users to speak to our engineering/software development department.  Also don't be surprised if our initial response is have you tried updating the firmware.

I did have -- for a couple of weeks -- v.2.38.  It was prone to freezing.  The first time or two that it froze I was able to download it again to re-update it.  But then even that stopped working.  I had to send my BDP-pi to Mr. Dayton to have him backdate the player to v.2.36.  I have complained about the misbehavior of this product repeatedly, but there's been no response about whether the persistent problems have been fixed.  In fact, most of the time, there's been no response at all.  Treating this as mainly a PR problem, or hoping maybe it'll just go away, does no credit to Bryston.  It would be to your and your company's benefit to engage in a serious program of re-evaluating and revamping this firmware to make it utterly reliable.  Adding features or whatever you've done to versions after 2.36 are meaningless if the reliability of the software isn't improved.  It should not freeze.  It should not yield cryptic errors that even the developers (apparently) can't decipher.

Hi Cal

I am sorry you are having issues but please take into account we have thousands of units out there and these problems rarely show up so it is definitely not a systemic problem with the software but possible a particular unit has been corrupted or some other issue.

I have 3 BDP's in my systems at home and have never had issues.  I know that does not solve your issue but there has to be some gremlin somewhere in the setup.

What model of the BDP do you have - 1, 2 or 3?

You sound upset, perhaps when your ready you’ll take our advice and we can continue.

I thought he was referring to a BDP player too, and I thought Manic Moose was designed specifically for it.

So, in a moment of weakness, I took the link to update the firmware to whatever the latest version is, as of noon PDT, Mar 8, 2020.  After letting it run for well over an hour and then rebooting the BDP-pi (I thought I identified the player earlier), it STILL shows v.2.36, and it STILL says there's an update available, and it STILL can't find that ####### database!
