Try getting in touch with QSC tech support.

John Gordon , who used to work for QSC, did a lot of research on quieter fans.

I believe that there are a couple you can order from Digi-key that should fit right in. Look for something around 24 dB noise level.

The fan is a typical 80mm case fan (in the RMX series anyway).  There's a plethora of case fans of this size due to the computer market.  The only problem is that QSC fans run on 24volts as opposed to 12.

I picked up a Directron Silencer (which performed well in a 80mm case fan shootout) and wired in a 12v fixed voltage regulator...so far it's MUCH quieter, with no problems as of yet.

The amp still has some fan noise though.  It's about as loud as the air coming out of the heat ducts when the furnace is running.

I'm sure I lost some airflow with the fan swap, but I'm not exactly stressing the amp with my shitbox sub either.  We'll see how well the fan cools it once I muster up the cash for a Larger in a few months.

I'm a total wreck with electronics, but I managed this swap with a few sweatbeads and an hour of downtime.

jgubman, re: unhooking the fan, I ran mine for at least 2 weeks without any fan and it worked out well.  The amp did get warm to the touch, not as hot as my reciever however.  It's cold as ice with the fan running.

Thanks, guess I don't want to take the chance of damaging the amp by unplugging the fan, so I'm going to take Zybar up on his K2 offer...

If anyone's looking for a cheap QSC PLX-3002 that's in good condition, let me know.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can splice in a 50-100ohm 5W resistor in series to slow the fan and make it somewhat quieter and still have some airflow.

I ended up buying a QSC 3402 from Zybar, and I do have to say that the fan is too loud.  I've even moved the QSC behind my system, and it's still too loud.  However, I plan on moving all my equipment into a room right near my main room, so I plan on keeping the QSC, and it seems to effortlessly run two Largers.  I plan on looking into better fans in the meantime, though.

I got a Pabst fan from newarkinone.com. . .MUCH quieter than the original fan in my RMX-850.

Go to the QSC audio support forums and find out what type of fan you need, and then see if they have that type at newarkinone. . .

I have heard from John Gordon. He is no longer with QSC but he was involved with the project to reduce the fan noise when he was there.

 The specs are 24V, 0.09A.

Here are a few model numbers that fit the bill:

Delta AUB0824L
Delta AFB0824L
Panaflo (Panasonic) FBA08A24L
Papst TYP8414L
SanyoDenki 109RO824H402

Digi-Key has the Panaflow in stock for around $9.00. The swap out is VERY easy.

Thanks, Wayne.  I went to the QSC forums, but they didn't have any help for the US versions of the amp (for whatever reason).  I'll look into that fan.

I ordered two of the Panasonic fans from Digikey.  If anyone else wants to do this, note that you cannot search for "panaflo"; you have to search for "panasonic" then select fans and choose 24V plus 25.5mm width.

Not to get off the subject too far but, can you run the New Larger Sub with a HSU 250W plate amp?

TIA

I would think so. I was using a channel of my Bryston to run the sub for a while.  My Bryston has 200 watts per channel into 4 ohms, and I think it did a good job, though not as good as the current QSC amp.

Well, I'm not after "scrotum crushing", pants flapping bass. But I do want nice tight musical bass and everything that goes with it. 2 channel only of course no HT. I'm going to be using it with Brines Acoustics  FT 1600II MLTL full range speakers.
