Anyone having trouble getting their sets? I noted in this subject back in March I pre-ordered the deluxe sets I,II,III from elusive disc and still have none. They have told me twice they are awaiting delivery of the deluxe III's. Your experience any different? Getting bummed. :(

Thanks,
Mark

Sorry to hear about it.
No problem at all from Amazon. All 3 deluxe sets came a week or two ago.

My three "regular" albums arrived, the Popmarket purchase I made recently. Damned if I can't find my RL Led Zeppelin II but...I'm listening to the new one right now and it is way more than adequate. Lots of low end, good air around the instruments. My recollection is that the RL II is better but I'm purely drawing on memory.

Paul,

I bought LZ II because my RL is well worn and a little noisy. I agree with your description. The RL is better, but not by much. The new Jimmy Page remastered version is really good and damn close to the RL.

Found my RL copy, will have to listen tomorrow. Got called to the ER: two brothers released from jail today, celebrated by getting drunk and one put his arm through a plate glass window. Going to the operating room to close it up...ain't life grand?

Mastered by Robert Ludwig. aka god. The initials RL are in the dead wax. He also mastered The Band's eponymous album, also considered the best sounding. Here's a link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Ludwig

Did some critical listening to my Robert Ludwig LZII vs. the new one.

I think the new one overall acquits itself pretty well, maybe 90 percent of the sound of the RL version.
Subtle but a little less air around things, like I originally thought when I listened to the new version at first.
Whole Lotta Love has the extended instrumental break in the middle and when it opens up into it there is
increased ambience, like the room you are in just doubled. Here's where I think the difference is most pronounced.

They both have good weight to the bass. If you have other standard pressings, I think you will like the new one just fine.

If I didn't have a Ludwig mastered copy, I could be content with the new one, no problem.

I agree with this. I listened to both my somewhat noisy RL and the new one a few days ago. The new one is very well done and much better than my non-RL pressing.

I don't mean to hijack this thread because it is in the vinyl circle, but I have the CD box set "definitive edition":here

http://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Collection-Led-Zeppelin/dp/B001FSDP08/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1403192634&sr=1-1&keywords=led+zeppelin+definitive+collection

They sound as close to the classic records LP versions as you can get.  Has anyone done an A/B comparison between this set and the new CDs?

I have not had the time to listen to or compare the new LPs with my classic records yet, but a friend of mine compared III and said that the classic records version blew away the new LP.  I wish that these we AAA.

As you said, this is the Vinyl Circle and IMO the discussion should stay focused on comparing different vinyl versions and not with CDs. The Music Circle might be a better place to have a vinyl v CD comparison. Just a suggestion.

Thanks

You might want to give that non-RL pressing to someone you love. I gave my LZII regular copy to my daughter once I found the RL. But I must admit, I'm keeping BOTH of these. I will probably give away my "regular" US pressings of LZI and LZIII though. Gotta listen first!

I have the Classic Records reissue of LZ I and it is terrific. I'm not sure how good my original is because I pretty much trashed it during college and law school and it is in the basement with other "abused in my youth records when I thought all pressings were equal and at $3.98 to $4.98 you just bought a new one" records. I never bought LZ III.

The new LZ1 is pretty bad.  LZII is decent.  LZIII is very good.  I have the Classic versions of II, III, Physical Graffiti, and CODA.  I've only done a direct comparison with the two III versions and I would say they are equal.  I need to dig out my Classic LZII to see if it is any better than the new one.

Hi nightfall,

I have that same box set - that's the one I was referring to earlier but I was too lazy to look it up for myself. I really like that box set. It looks and sounds great! I see it is out of production now. I'm glad I got mine when I did.

I was looking at all of my old Led Zeppelin vinyl records and the only RL copy I have is Houses Of The Holy. It says STERLING RL in the run out area. So I gave it a good cleaning on the nitty gritty and spun it today. It sounds really good. For fun I compared a few tracks side by side with that box set that NIGHTFALL has. I thought that The Rain Song sounded a little better on the Lp, but Over the Hills and Far Away was about the same. I even got confused as to which copy I was listening to (CD or Lp) on that track. No Quarter sounded clearly better to me on the CD. Better separation and tone during the quiet passages. Overall the three tracks I picked were really very close in sound quality, with the CD sounding a little more fleshed out in the mid bass and the vinyl having a more extended high frequency component (not better, but clearly more extended). I enjoyed them both! Neither one made me wanting for the other.

But that was the old Houses of the Holy vs. the remastered CD. A little bit off of the original topic I know, but still, I had a lot of fun comparing them and I thought I would share my observation. I hope the vinyl-only crowd isn't too upset about that.

It's all in good fun. It's Led Zeppelin fer cryin' out loud. (And yeah, it should be a little loud when you play it.  :D)

My new LZ I is better than my old one, by a lot. I have a used copy of unknown origin, a regular American copy and it's severely lacking in the highs. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You on the new release has impact and drama, my old one is drab and lifeless.
