To be honest, I can't wait! I have wanted one since they first came out and read every new post both here and over on Computer Audiophile. But I'm sure I'm not alone in that all the" computer babble" has cooled me off a little. I'm one of those older audiophiles who could figure out a tube circuit but am lost in the digital world.

Has any one compared the sound of the Vega to the Marantz NA-11S1?

I have had my eye on the Vega, Marantz and a Lampizator.

So I know it's been asked before , but when you guys paired the Aries with the Vega did you get better sound or was it more of a convenience thing?

Interesting.  I know Jason came from a Mac Mini, what were you using previously Tom?  I am currently running a battery powered MacMini and Audirvana, I would be interested in the improvements it made (other than the UI).

Thanks,
Ed

I thought the Alix I had was quite good (enough), until the Aries arrived recently. I'd hoped for a slight improvement in sound, though both are Linux based, but was floored at how much difference the Aries really made. It's hard to point to one thing and I'm a lousy reviewer, but the stability and focus of the image on vocals and acoustic stringed instruments really stands out, as they're perfectly placed. I'd call it spooky good now. I'm still exploring it, but overall, it's been an impressive upgrade for me.

Thanks Tom, I also ran an Alix until a couple of years ago, so that gives me a reference.  Much appreciated.

Wish I didn't read this...now I might actually have to get this.

So sorry my friend  8)

Bear in mind that I haven't had a parade of music servers though here. Mostly Linux, a couple Macs, but no souped up Windows boxes such as yours. Also, the UI is what I'd call "purposeful", well executed for it's intended task, but not all things to all people like JRiver. As I understand, it is still maturing, but it's working well for me so far.

Spend the $400 and get the Totaldac USB Cable/Filter. It is leaps and bounds better than the rest. I have tried most of them, and none provide the solidity and inner resolution that this one does. Tell him Paul sent you ;)

The difference is in that instead of this artist being in "that area", they are instead, right fkin there. Remarkable product, really.

Totally agree on the Totaldac USB.  Outstanding cable and the exchange rate is slightly better and mine came in around $325 from France via FedEx in just a few days.  Amazing cable.  Don't waste your time with the everyday plain USB.  I'm serious.  And don't call me Shirley.

Mine is scheduled to be delivered on Monday.  I ordered it yesterday but the 1 meter all in was about $425.

I am anxious to hear what this will do for the Vega over my generic cable.

If it doesn't knock you on your butt in 12 seconds, I'd be shocked.  I couldn't believe the bass and overall clarity and authority of the music with it immediately.  I am glad I listed to these guys in this thread.

Did you ever try the Pang Paul USB cable?

I went with that based on recommendations and never really tried anything else.

I considered it and the JCat cable both George.  I thought I had a digital noise problem and was hoping the Totaldac would elminate the noise.  It did way more than that.  I was shocked by the instant improvement.  I am always skeptical about cables and this one really wowed me.  So glad I listened to these guys.

The Short Block USB Filter will probably do the same thing for $199 and you can keep your own cable in the system.
