Purchase a mic, soundcard, download free copy of REW or HOLM and purchase 3-4 subs and integrate them properly and be done. That is the most pure way to do it.
Would start with a pair of SVS SB13 Ultra subs. IMHO, the BEST sub available for music at a reasonable price point. Ring SVS, and ask to speak to Ed Mullins. He knows his stuff. Also, check into HT Shack website. They have a LOT of information on sub integration.
ALL the info needed is on this website (AudioCircle). There is no need to get anywhere else. Multiple subs are the way to go. And when I say multiple, more than 2.
Disagree.
I looked into the Dual Core...It sounds promising...SS12s and subs sounds like it would be overkill in my room. The SPL would likely blow the door of the room, not to mention my eardrums...I'm just looking for a way of getting more punch in low end, but in a way that I'm not sure about using all the crossover/phase/REW computer tuning etc...It seems complicated,,,,
I use dual core with dual rythmik sub. XLR out to my amp, RCA out to dual sub. Since the SS8 bass was impressive down to mid 20hz, I ran dual core as 2.0 that way dual core will see my system as full range speaker and adjust itself accordingly. (I use build in crossover of my subs at 60 hz) try dual core as .2 mode but prefer the 2.0 set up. Result is excellent, the bass line got a lot more punch and weight.
Of course you do. I wouldn't expect anything else.
AustinI have a similar setup with 2 Salk rythmiks (but just STs for mains) and have been looking at the dual core.In your configuration how do you set the high-pass on your SS8s? If you use the low pass on the subs to 60Hz but run the SS8s full range, it would seem you would be "doubling up" the 20hz to 60hz range?
Pete,If this is 2-channel setup for music but within a surround sound HT, which is what the photo looks like, I'd definitely look to add subs for the HT application. 'You are there' explosions beg for power. And one listens to a film audio track without the same critical intent as with music. But for music, nothing beats a fully integrated output from a speaker made by Jim and voiced by Dennis. A sub, even well integrated with REW or whatever, will never offer as clean a sound. And having heard the 12's in an HT room quite similar to yours (14'x21')....OH MAN!! It was nearly a religious experience for me the first time I heard it. Pure bliss and accuracy from bottom to top...no sub need apply. I haven't heard the 8's, so I can't compare. But those whopper woofers in the SS12's blow a bit of air!So...if your application is dual purpose...HT and 2-channel, there is a bit of a dilemma. Fortunately most modern pre's and receivers (I'm not sure what you're using) have the ability to go to Pure Direct with the push of a remote's button. Voila...from 7.2 to 2.0.At least that's my 2 cents worth...and it may not be worth that much.
