My 1.7s are driven by an AVA Hybrid Fet Valve 400R amp. 400 watts into 4 ohms.
... it deteriorated below usefulness. ...
Does it double down to 400 wpc at 4 ohms?
I can report that the Pass Labs INT-150 is a OUTSTANDING match for the 1.7's. The INT-150 supplies 300 watts @ 4 ohm nominal load. The music comes from a totally BLACK background, and the clarity and 3D presentation is truly impressive. It only has two gain stages, and XLR inputs provide the lowest possible noise and distortion. Using a Modwright Oppo BDP-95, the combination is just stunning (especially on Blu Ray/SACD). Years ago, I gave up on planer speakers (What was I thinking? ). Those damn Acoustats I use to own drove me crazy. No more. The 1.7's are front and center for two channel audio. Unlike the Acoustats, they were pretty easy to set up and get the sound right, and they do not punish the amp like the Acoustats did. A truly magnificent set of speakers.
What kinds of problems were you having with Accoustats?
I can't decide if this thread is a bunch of boys in a measuring contest, or a bunch of boys overcompensating for the lack of measurement by buying the biggest toy.
Big load, big truck. no matter how tall you are.
