I do. Very convenient. And tasty! Pricing seems a bit off.

I have no idea what Wayner means by "put one together." There is nothing to "put together."

All of the Weber grills come to the store un-assembled in boxes. Usually an employee of the store gets the fun task of putting them together, While some units, like the One Touch Gold charcoal unit have only a dozen or so parts, other units like the Genesis have over an hour of labor into them, assembling the frame, tank holder, doors, panels, ignigtors, and the grill itself. That's my time rate, and I've put together a hundred or so. I don't need to look at instructions.

If you want to assemble the grill yourself, your store may give you a price break, but if you elect to take an un-assembled unit, I suspect it will take a novice over 3 hours to do. There is also a mountain of packing material to get rid of afterwards.

I suggest you buy the assembled one.

Thanks, but the link was to a Q, not a Genesis...?

I think I had to screw the handle on.

Did that require the left handed metric screwdriver?

No, but now that you ask, I did put the handle on upside down...  (I'm serious! And it's still like that after several years...)

I guess that proves Wayner's point...

So if we read your handle from "up here", it would appear right-side-up.  :thumb:

I put the handle on my first Q upside down, too. Oh well.

John, I know there isn't much to a Q, but I thought others that might be eyeing up a Spirit or Genesis could use a heads up on assembly time, if they chose to buy one un-assembled.

I paid the extra and had my Genesis delivered already assembled . . . having gone through the joy of putting a grill together once prior it was worth every penny. At least to me.

How about Master Forge Grills?  They seem to have quite a few quality parts and ideas?

Sounds great Rollo. We have some ribeye ready for tonight. It's going to be nice, so I am going to fire up the charcoal grill. Of course, have a few pints to go with it.

Appears the Char-Broil Infrared series may be along the same lines as the Grill Mates.

Anyone know if they work the same?

They function along the same manner but apparently aren't very well made.  I was gonna go that route but the reviews weren't very good.  From what I could find from owners the build quality isn't very good.

Webers are built to last, they are engineered very well and most are still made in the USA (not the Spirit series). I recommend them to everyone. The neighbor has the "Green Egg" across the street. Costs too much, heavier then hell and requires special wood pellet fuel. I'm not impressed

Don't mean to stray off topic here as this is about gas grills but if you happen to be referring the Big Green Egg I respectfully disagree.
I've owned mine now for almost seven years now and can confidently say it will smoke any gas grill out there - no pun intended.  The heat/ moisture retention is superior to any gas grill I'm aware of and can hold a temperature within a couple of degrees for many hours, and  is also  capable of getting hotter then a gas grill for searing.   I'm not sure what type of special wood pellet fuel you're referring to but I use lump charcoal with mine which I find superior to traditional charcoal which incidentally  can also be used.
My Vermont Castings gas grill has been relegated to burgers and dogs for quite some time now.

If you happen to be referring to a different Green Egg then I apologize

If you are going to quote someone, I suggest you do it correctly or don't do it at all.

I'm sorry if I offended you, didn't realize you were that sensitive.  You should try answering the question rather than concerning yourself with such minutia

Big green egg grills are really a kamado cooker and they are incredabilty efficient. But one thing they are not are pellet grills they use lump charcoal but in fairness you can throw pellets in the mix for added smoke flavor. You can learn about lump charcoal at the naked whiz.com yeah weird name for a BBQ site but expand your horizons if you dare. Grills are tools which serve a purpose.  I am likely to have a weber kettle cooking split chicken, a big green egg doing its thing with a chorizo stuffed cabbage topped with a good cheddar cheese while my pellet grill works its 2-1-1 method on some Costco loin back ribs. The gas grill is heating up to roast a few ears of corn and set the final glaze on the ribs and depending on my guest crisp up the chicken skin.

Gas??? Gas??? I don't need no stinking Gas!!!!! :icon_twisted:

In all seriousness though, I will probably get a gasser at some point. Something with decent surface area and a rotisserie.

I'll save up and get a solidly built one though. I've looked around a few times and decided you get what you pay for. The Weber Genesis series are looking like the best performance for the least money that I've seen so far, but I'll keep looking.

I'm not trying to marginalize gas grills, I should have added that I also use mine for cooking corn, potatoes, etc...  I just can't seem to justify spending too much on one considering what I use them for.  Don't want to stray too off topic here as the OP is looking for recommendations  for a good gas grill.    Good luck and happy grilling/BBQ with whatever grill you decide on :thumb:

Carusoracer,

Late to the party here, but I can endorse the Charbroil Infra Red Bistro Gas Grill.  Small, efficient, heats up fast, no flame ups and easy to clean.  It won't impress friends, no side burners, no multi zone heating, just fast efficient cooking that I have found to be super.  I ordered mine from Amazon: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=post;topic=115726.40;last_msg=1227353

Good luck with your decision.
