I bought this bottle of Longmorn about six months ago from The Whisky Exchange in London.  This is their own bottling, part of what they call the Masterpieces series.  It was distilled in May of 1978 and matured for 31 years in an ex-bourbon cask.  It is not chill filtered and has no coloring added, and is bottled at a natural cask strength of 58% ABV.  This is only the third pour I have taken  from the bottle since I want to make it last and it was rather expensive.  But I felt like treating myself to something special tonight.  This is truly a spectacular single malt scotch whisky.  There is a lot of complexity here, with plenty of influence from the oak...but it does not dominate.  There's still a great deal of distillery character to be found here.

Ohh.....I'd love to be your best friend right now.   :duh:

May I be so rude as to ask "how much"?

No problem.  It was not as expensive as a 30 Year Old Brora or Port Ellen, but at about $250 I wouldn't exactly call it cheap.  For what it is I think it was an excellent whisky for the money.  I have a couple of bottles of 1975 Tomatin from MacKillop's Choice that was a killer deal at about $125 per bottle...but like the Longmorn they are no longer available.

Thanks Jerome.
Looks like it's a step or two above my pay scale, so I'll just be content with my Makers Mark.

The Vieux Carre

The Vieux Carre was invented in 1938 by Walter Bergeron, the head bartender at the Monteleone Hotel in New Orleans, and is named after the French term for what we call “The French Quarter” ... le Vieux Carré (“Old Square”).

ingredients:

Rye Whiskey
Cognac
Italian Vermouth
Benedictine
Angostura Bitters
Peychaud’s Bitters

Sounds like an interesting cocktail.  I have all of those ingredients on hand so I'll give it a try sometime.

Not a particularly active ex Bourbon cask for this 20 year old Balblair, but it is a nice whisky nevertheless.  Distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2011 at a punchy 59.5% ABV.

Nice glass. I have similar glasses made by Ravenscroft. They do make a difference. more than wire.
