Beautiful audio equipment thread
« on: 3 Nov 2012, 09:36 am »
After seeing the Disco BoomBox, I figure that we need a break and could stand to look at some attractive pieces of audio gear.
I'll get the ball rolling with some pieces that I always liked.
None of these are mine but I did own that HK when I was a kid and then sold it for a Kenwood integrated because it made more power.

Hi Wayner and all Audio Circle members.

That's what I call beautiful looking and well design audio stuff.

The kind of items I would buy right away if I win at the lottery.

Too bad they don't make stuff like that anymore.

Good thing you can still buy them used.

Nakamichi 1000 zxl limited
And yes,I was the lucky owner of one of this but at the cost of what???
I had to sell my camera, bicycle and 8 cassette players which 4 of them were Nakamichi in order to get this.
I do not think that any manufacture would ever make such thing any more.

I can see we have similar tastes : I have a Sansui of similar vintage & looks of that HK, and also own one of those 1st gen Manley stingrays.

So much awesome looking gear out there (I even like a lot on the other "ugly" list).

Gonna do a shout out to one thing I own though (photos not mine) : one of the best of the Pioneer silver face integrated amps, the SA 9800. Ah the flouroscan meters! All the lovely dials to play with.  Guess some like em "naked" - but I like the wood cabinets.

The blue volume dial face version is custom - would be tempted to do that to mine, but like the numbered dial.  Maybe if it could keep the #'s and do the blue backlight.

In addition to the vintage Marantz gear like Wayner's, I love the look of the older Luxman gear like these. Pics from the internet, wish they were mine.

I like the Japanese almarro design sense:
The 318A/B:

And the A340 monoblocks:

I don't know of a manufacturing company whose philosophy I agree with more completely, either:

I persisting1 and all Audio Circle members.

That picture of the JBL Paragon brings back good memories to me.

I saw it and heard it at a small Audio Exhibition at the Mont-Royal hotel
in Montreal, Canada many years ago.

The voice of the signer was so real,
that I thought she was with us in the room.

I always liked the elegant look of the SOTA turntables; they would certainly help class up the living room.
Santa, are you listening?

The lines of the SOTA would be nicely complimented by one of these:

although you'd need to get the wood to match up.

The Rega Isis Valve has that understated styling that the British are so good at.
I like my martinis shaken, not stirred.
