I like my gear...

Whoa, DaveC113, what's the backstory on that gorgeous wood?

Thanks, it's maple with burl, quilt and spalted patterns, corners are walnut. It's an Aikido preamp driving EL34s directly.

No one has mentioned the Marantz 2130?

Hi Steve and all Audio Circle members.

I saw with my own eyes one like that about 30 years ago,
it was my divorced girl friend that got it free in the divorce settlement
with her ex-husband.

I wanted to marry her and divorce her to get that nice Marrantz receiver,
but our dating lasted only one evening.

I'm really pleased with how my Garrard 401 turned out. I just think the 401 along with the Origin Live Illustrious Mk. 3c tonearm looks bad-ass! 8)

Sounds equally impressive as well.

Hi Beatlebum and all Audio Circle members.

A PURE BEAUTY !

Hi PRELUDE and all Audio Circle members.

Accuphase always had nice design with all their models,
Luxman is a notch under, but still very close.

Does that stand for Big F'in Amp?  :green:

Do you mean, in the tradition of ADCOM with their GFPs and GFAs? I have a GFP 750 - and it is great, especially in passive mode.

Infinity FET Preamp

One of the most beautiful pieces I owned.  Seller was Ronald Reagan's ex-campaign director for CA Governor.  The seller delivered it to my house on Woodside Dr, San Anselmo, CA in his Mercedez.  My room mates thought that was pretty neat.  He had already replaced the FET with a Spectral preamp, and said he missed some of the Infinity's performance qualities.

That was a killer preamp!  My vote for Arnie Nudell's best work behind only the mahvalus IRS III, which I heard in the owner's dedicated sound room (owner of Landmark Calendars and Greeting Cards, Paradise Dr, Corte Madera).  Onkyo's huge M-510 powered the mid/treble array.  Source was Sony DAT, which flat-out killed every Red Book source extant at that time.

Here are a couple of reasons that preamp sounded so good. No green solder mask, just virgin fiberglass boards and lots of space above and below the circuit board in the chassis.

I guess I've always been more impressed by what is inside the box than what is on the outside.

Currently in my living room, a set of Vapor Audio Aurora featuring a gorgeous Fiddleback maple veneer dyed black and silver.

That's a shot of it in the room at RMAF this past October.

Also, I have a soft spot for my old Sansui G8000.

And of course my one-off 3-way DIY build which I call "Byzantium."

Digg that curved baffle on Byzantium!  That Japanese Golden Age was indeed Golden!

The feel/touch/operation of every control on the Infinity FET preamp was equal to the performance and cosmetic appeal.  I miss that piece.  It was decades ahead of its time, similar to the IRS III.  Arnie was quite the visionary back in the day...Mine had the blue tinted plastic transparency installed for the back light, but I also had the red tint transparency.  The original owner had the two wood end-pieces finished in piano black.  It was a stunner.

Replaced it with one of the very first VTL pieces Manley brought to the USA, their standard (small) 12AX7A line preamp with no output buffer, which sounded significantly better than the larger preamp with output buffer, providing the load was suitable.  IIRC Manley's original importer was "The Audio Valet," who later imported Audio Note.

Always thought my Allison CD-8s were very nice looking. Mine were oak which I like better. Wish I still had 'em

Allison made great performing speakers in the day!

Refresh my memory re. the driver array in that model.  IOW, which drivers cover which range firing which direction?
