Deleting files in the 'Recycle' folder
« on: 4 Jul 2012, 06:14 am »
I have 2 x 1TB drives attached to my BDP-1 which is connected to my LAN environment.  There is a 'Recycle' folder created in the main directory of one of the 2 drives.  In this folder, there are many files which look like system-generated trash (mine runs to 40GB).

Has anyone tried deleting these files in the 'Recycle' folder?

Yes, I deleted that folder & that folder from the computer recycle bin.
But with the newest firmware update I now have a few files that I cannot seem to delete.

I have not linked / networked  my computer to the stereo system. I am in the habit of taking one of the hard drives from the BDP-1 to the computer, emptying the recycle bin on the computer, then connecting that hard drive to the computer.    I do a bit of hard drive maintenance on a friends hard drive he has connected to his BDP-1. His ipad shows a heap of files that have dollar sign icons and numbers in the recycle bin folder on his BDP-1 hard drive. I just connect that drive to his laptop, delete that folder, and transfer any fresh downloads he has to that hard drive. He once had a strange folder we could not delete, so as he had a spare hard drive with his music backed up on it, we merely formated the BDP-1 hard drive, copied the back up music to the drive, then all was good again.

BDP-1 questions I can't find the answer to
« Reply #3 on: 26 Nov 2012, 04:21 pm »
1) When disconnecting a hard drive from the back of the Bryston BDP-1, do I have to power off the Bryston?

2) If that drive is  a powered drive do I have to power it off?

3) Should I power off the Bryston before removing thumb drives?

4) Presently I'm using iTunes to rip CDs to a MacBook Pro to AIFF files. My concern is that I keep the resolution as high as possible for best sound...can I improve upon this?

5) Is there any MAC OS software that will help me organize my music? Presently I'm creating folders and sub-folders , naming them, organizing them in genres then individual artists when there are multiple albums e.g. Jazz, POP, Easy Listening, Male/Female Vocalists, Classical (Orchestral, Keyboard, Baroque, Chamber Music, etc), Choral. This is the most time-consuming part of all. How do others organize their music? By the way, I've been using MPaD with an iPad and it seems to work great.

6) I am using two Seagate 2TB powered hard drives: one strictly for connection to the Bryston, the other for backing up my files. What is the fastest/easiest/safest  way to backup? (Do the length/quality of the connecting cords affect the results in any way?)

7) Is there a limit to the size of thumb drives that can be used with the BDP-1?

THANKS in advance for any guidance, suggestions.

This is my first forage into this kind of thing, the I'm incredibly impressed by the BDP-1!

NO

2) If that drive is  a powered drive do I have to power it off?

NO

3) Should I power off the Bryston before removing thumb drives?

Does not matter

AIFF is just fine

5) Is there any MAC OS software that will help me organize my music? Leave this to the MAC guys

Cords do not matter - I just copy the files to the backup using my main computer.

7) Is there a limit to the size of thumb drives that can be used with the BDP-1?

NO limit

I would review this on the best way to backup and synchronize the music for Macs (and for PCs)

You can do playlists for the MPD from iTunes, but it's not an easy task but you through mPad and mPod, you can select to play all songs in a given genre.

I think it's a good idea to consider the speed of the thumb drive. If you have a thousand songs on a slow thumb drive, it will take a long time to load when you boot up the BDP-1.

I also found there was some improvement in sound quality when I switched to a faster thumb drive, although I haven't seen anyone else make the same claim.

I later purchased a solid state USB flash drive. They're rather expensive, but they are silent (no moving parts), very fast, and the one I bought works just fine plugged into the back of the BDP-1.
