I have it up and running but I need a little help. Is there any way to adjust the volume level on the photentiometer board? It's a bit loud at the lowest volume. Would you happen to have a manual and/or schematic for it?
So far the sound is great but it has some crappy tubes in it. I'm waiting on a set of NOS Phillips Miniwatts to put in it before I can get a better idea of the sound. The good news is that since the Melos has balanced inputs I can use the full potential of a couple of broadcast phono preamps that I have. I have a Micro-Trak that I paid like $20 for and it sounds fantastic. I just need to make a few opamp changes and I'll have a giant-killer.
i have an owner's manual but there's no info regarding adjustment of gain. i do know that, in stock form, these pre's had a lot of gain, and one of the mods some people did was to reduce gain - i had the gain reduced on mine, when it was in for mods a long time ago.
regarding which resistor(s) need to be swapped out to lower gain, i haven't a clue. you may want to try contacting gary dodd; i understand he has some knowledge about these preamps.
http://doddaudio.com/default.aspx or, you can try contacting mark porzilli at the memory player
http://www.thememoryplayer.net/ if you have no luck there, in the meantime you can either purchase or make some in line attenuators, to insert at the amp, at the end of your preamp-to-amp i/c's...
