That one works fine Bob. Keep up the good work!

Edit: added my location, but I think there is one more step Bob. If I click on the red "edit" button, I can change the title of the map and I don't think you want that.

Edit part deux: You need to invite people, something to do with the "Collaborate" setting.

Yea, the ability to change the title isn't "right", but that's not a biggie in my mind at this point.

The "invite" thing sucks. I have to put each and every GAS guy's email address in there seperately, with a comma in between.  :duh:
There's GOT to be an easier way.

It's about lunch time, and I'm heading out for a bit.
Back in an hour.

Yea, I'm #4 up there.  Nifty idea Bob!  This will REALLY be helpful for judging travel time for get togethers and seeing if car pooling makes sense.
You don't need to invite each member and enter their e-mail.  People can just register, bring up the map, and then Add A Placemark.
Congratulations!  This is neat.

Thanks Ken, but all the credit goes to Matt ("youravhandyman") for the idea, I'm just doing the grunt work.

Hey, I need somebody, anybody, to go to the link, and look in the black toolbar line on the right side of the page. Does my log in come up? What name do you see?

Nice, a screen shot!  :thumb:
Thank you Leo.
I see it's logged in as you. I was wondering if the link I sent contained the log in information, and everybody was logging in as me, thereby having the ability to make changes to the thing. I guess that's the way it is, and people do have the ability to change the name of the map?

But it's looking pretty good so far. Keep it up guys!  :D

Bob

EDIT: Mark, I clicked on your pin, and accidentally slid it.  :o
That's not supposed to happen. Did I give everybody "admin" powers?

I also noticed that Leo's screen shot is centered on my pin.....making me think he's got as much ability on the page as I do.

I think the way this works is pretty much anyone can edit anyone else's info if they choose to.  Kind of like googledocs when you collaborate it.  I believe if you wanted to lock it, you can probably uncheck this option and it will not be editable anymore by everyone.  And it looks like the map will always start on your pin Bob.

Hmm.....  :? That's not gonna work.
> Here's a link < to the Carolina guys map. They're not using Google, they use "mapservices". I checked theirs and I can't move the pins. I only used Google because Mitsu sent the "how to video", and it looked pretty easy.

Preferably, I'd like to get the Google thing working, but I don't like anybody and everybody having the ability of moving things, and (I guess) changing typed information.

Guys, for now, I'd hold off adding anymore pins until I get it figured out.
I may check out the other site too.

Don't get too excited guys. We need (I need) to figure out the bugs in GoogleMaps before we call it good.
We can't have the public adjusting our pin positions, and typed comments at will.
If I can't figure out the Google Map thing, I may go with the map the Carolina guys are using.

Bob,

Once any of us "sign in", we have collaborator rights to change anything we want. You, as the owner of the page, need to click on the "Collaborate" button at the top left near the red EDIT button, and manage collaborations. This way you have to "invite" others to place their locations on the map. Otherwise anyone is going to be able to do whatever they want when they're signed in because by default you've given everyone "Collaborater" rights.

Like it or not, you're going to have to invite each of us. Or scrap the whole damn thing and use a different map service.
