Very nice write-up Robert.

What you described is exactly why I plunked down my money and Wayne is building me an Ultimate PS.

Hmmmm.... it is sitting in my sentbox and looks like it sent OK....I've cut & paste it and re-sent it by clicking on the PM button below your post above (rather than via the inbox) .... see if it reached you this time.

FWIW,

I just received a phone call from Kent at Two Bald Guys Audio
http://www.twobaldguysaudio.com/

One of my customers in Portland, OR recently had his Deluxe PS upgraded with the Jensen caps and the "Nitro" DC power cable. He loaned the PS to Kent to see what he thinks. Kent is usng a stock SB3 into a DAC.

He wanted to order one of the "Superior" PS and didn't really care how much it costs. He told me the Stock SB with "Superior" PS sounded FAR better than his $3000.00 plus modded reference CD transport.

He is taking the PS to a get together this weekend with a couple of reviewers from 6 moons.

I am working on a "mod" for all those who purchased the "Basic" Rev1 power supply. It will be possible to upgrade to Jensen caps in the same case. The Jensens will be a smaller value and may not have quite the low end extension of the "Superior". I should have more information and pricing by next week.

Wayne,
Since there's no audition list, would you then welcome people to drop by your place to have a listen to your ULTIMATE power supply?

I just found out that Denver is about 16 hrs drive from Houston. I may plan a vacation up north in the coming months. It will give me an added incentive if you would allow me to pay you a visit. :)

   Regards

Barry,

If you would be coming up to Denver for a day or two, I am sure the guys from the DAM would be very pleased to have a get together with you. Weekends do seem to be best.

I do not have a Ultimate PS. There is only one of those and it lives in Mississippi. I have a prototype PS that is fairly close in sound. mgalusha and Turk both have very similar PS. We might be able to use one or all of those in a PS comparison.

When I build the PS, they are sent out to their new owners as fast as possible.

I do not keep stock or demo units on hand. I do have a couple of personal SBs that have been modded to extremes. These can also be listened to.

I will be showing at the RMAF in October if anyone wishes to come out to Denver at that time. I will have a few different variations on mods and power supplies to compare at that time.

Here ya go :D

I found some smaller value Jensen caps that would fit inside the case.. I have built a couple of these. They will be going out early next week for some folks to give me feedback on them. If they work out, I will offer the upgrade on the website.

The cost for these "smaller" Jensen are just about the same as the "larger" ones I used in the "Ultimate" and the upgrades to the Deluxe.

Hmmn, sounds like the 80/20 rule being applied, right in my sweet spot!
