Justs curious, is it too late to participate in this tour?  Whom should I contact about this? I am near the GTA area.

Lo_tse
Lotse let us know how they sound
It's been a while since we've jammed some music (Peter's or Tony's)

Hi, Pat

Yup, it has been a long while!! Good to hear from you.  Actually, if one could  organise another get-together (at Tony' place??), I will be more than happy bringing  along the cables to share the experience with the guys. Not a bad way to kick start the spring.  I am sure Alex will not mind.

Hi John,

This is my review of the Wywire XLR interconnects and speaker cables. I didn't test the RCA or power cables that came with the package. This is my first review and I have to admit that I was skeptical that the sound improvement if any, would compete with the cost of purchasing a better DVD player or contributing to a downpayment for a new amp or pair of speakers.

At the time of the evaluation, my 2ch audio system consisted of a Pioneer Elite DVD player connected by premium Monster RCA cables to a Bryston preamp sp 1.7 (in bypass mode), a Krell power amp KSA 250 and Legacy Classic speakers. The XLR interconnects between the preamp and power amp are manufactured by NCMX Neutrik, and Dared speaker cables.

The XLRs were connected between the preamp and power amp and although they were not broken in yet, an immediate change in sound was noticeable: The soundstage increased by aproximately 10-15% and the "imaging" improved too. There was a better layering of the instruments in front and on the sides with better sound wrapping. However I felt that there was still some crspiness in the high frequencies (a characteristic of many Krell amps) and almost no improvement in the low frequencies.

Next I replaced the speaker cables and kept the new XLR interconnects. The major change was a marked improvement in the high-frequency range. The crispiness mentioned earlier was almost inexistant, which made the music at high volumes a lot more enjoyable and for longer periods of time. The low frequency was extended by maybe 2-3 HZ which was also noticeable at high volumes.

I have to admit that there was a marked improvement in sound quality especially at high volumes when both speakers cables and interconnects were working together. I began this review with a very bias opinion that if you want better sound then you need to obtain better audio components such as amp/pre-amp/player or speakers. If you are shopping for audio wires, I recommend trying out these Wywire speaker cables and XLR interconnects, you might find that sound quality will improve significntly at a fraction of the cost of purchasing new audio gear.

Hi John,
Here is a few thoughts---

I found them a little brighter in the highs, with more texture of their own, and a bit more veiled in the mid range. The cables were also a little more aggressive sounding, and not quite as pitch specific in the bass. But these differences were very slight, certainly not reflective of a price differential compared to my Virtual Dynamics.
I found that I could listen quite happily to the combination for hours at a time, switching back and forth with particularly high resolution sources like DVD-As and SACDs. I always came back my VD, but was impressed over the long term by the loaner cables, in particular at their overall neutrality and musicality. I also found that when all the cables were used together they brought the listening experience up one level.

Mclsound,

If you still have the cables on hand, I highly recommend you give the power cables a whirl before sending everything along to the next person.  They offer up a size-able portion of the Wywire sound and sell for far less then their other offerings (like $250 iirc).

They are the price/performance sweet spot in the Wywires lineup.

I was also curious if a 20amp juice(for the big old Krells,KSA 250 & KSA 300s)could be built for a resonable price? Just a thought!

My comments carry for the Juice I as well as the II.  I've got specimens of both at home.  Judging by your associated equipment and my assumptions of your listening preferences, the II may be more up your alley--that said, the original is a very nice PC which I prefer in some applications.

No problem on the 20 amp power cord. Same price as the 15 amp power cord. I use Wattgate ends. Do you need a 20 amp at the wall too, or just the IEC?

The cables from the Canadian tour are coming back to the WyWires HQ in California. I going to clean them up and fix whatever I need to fix and put them on the East Coast US tour. The East coast tour has over 25 participants and we are only at #8 now
