The Transporter can only output 24/96 maximum. Th fact that Squeezebox Server has SOX (downsampling) to allow 24/192 files to do sample rate conversion down to 24/96 is a function of the server software, not anything the TP is doing. It's stuck at 24/96 period. So...yes, the TP can read and play 24/192 files..but only cuz they've been dummied-down.
I find that I install the most recent s/w whenever I need to do a major overhaul of the server.I have never tried to install updated s/w outside of those roughly annual redo's of my server. From the sound of this thread, I am glad I don't, for the most part. When I do need to reinstall the s/w, I look for the most recent, reputedly stable version, and run with that.I know I miss out on the latest and greatest functionality, but I also miss out on most of the headaches too!

Could be worse -- at least the players work on their own ...
Turns out it was a cache clearing problem -- issue finally resolved after much dicking around ...

I had to right click on my C-drive, choose properties, and then do a disk clean-up.
