to date.. i have almost 30 hours into them.. if the wifey was felling better they would be done..lol..

here is the veneer that I will use for both the base and the side inserts...

color.. I want to do a drab metallic.. but my dad told me last night he wants them in black.. so I may do a black metallic.. but what I wanted to do is this:

I figered there would some type of patern used for the final details. How many hours do you figure you will have in these when all said and done? Looking sharp so far. Maybe I missed it but what colors are your considering for this pair.

The black metallic would look nice too. I'm thinking a darkened listening room with track lighting aimed at the speakers. Nice warm splashes of color from the veneer, and kind of muted metallic highlights from the painted surfaces.

well the only good thing out of not having a job now is that I get to work on these.. still have to fill some dips and pin holes.. but I will get to them tomorrow along with fixing the chips I made from prying out the side inserts.. I'll also start working on the stands tomorrow as well

Howdy, sorry to hear you lost your job. It ain't easy finding another one as it's been 26 months now for myself and there's just not anything out there in my area. So good luck! :thumb:

I don't know if it's already been mentioned yet but for the sake of not having to scope over each post, could you mention what you're using for drivers and some crossover info? Thanks.

Cheers,
Robin

 Hello HH,
Just came across the mention of the job loss. Very sorry to hear this. Obviously you have some talent so hopfully it won't be long before something comes along.

I hope the wait is not too long and I wish you the very best of luck.

Dude, that's awesome. You're a stud. You're my hero, and definite inspiration when I get back into "creative" speaker building, for sure.  :thumb:

Regarding the color: When you posted the picture of the Bentley, I thought, "Wow, that's badass. That's the most beautiful color I've ever seen on a speaker". But then I thought, "What if I saw that color on a Ford Taurus". Hmmm....I think my Grandma had that color on an Buick once. Not the most "punch" of color choices I've seen.
But since Dad wants a black metallic, I was thinking about a very metallic charcoal black I had on an '89 Silverado years ago. When it was clean and the sun was shinning, you could see all the colors of the rainbow in it. It was SO cool. Imagine red and silver flakes in charcoal black base. Much too cool for a paint scheme on a pick-up and much too cool for a factory paint color, but very neat none the less.

Just throwin' that out there. I'll see if I can get the paint code if you're interested. I've still got the VIN (iirc) and a buddy at General Motors.

Bob

p.s. I found one of your CDs in my rig from the other day. I'll keep it safe until we meet again.

So I didn't get allot of time today to work on them.. plus the cold weather is causing dry time to double.. I skim coated the stands just to make sure that the surface is perfect before veneering. Also notice that while skim coating I am also making the front piece sit flush into the stand to give a more custom look..

here you can see that the side insert that I will also veneer is removed so that I can start cleaning up the seams..

the side insert..
