Just saw that Aimee Mann's Lost in Space is available on MFSL/UltraDisc SACD Hybrid!  If anyone picks this up before me, please post your impressions.  I'd love to hear how MFSL did with this release.  Great album as is, would love to hear it on SACD... would especially like to hear it done by MFSL!

The store is Habitat for Humanity and they charge 50 cents for an LP. The other thing I like about this store, is even if there are 10 LPs in the set, it is still 50 cents, unlike Goodwill, which would charge $10.00 for a 10 LP set.

Thanks,

Brad

Just bought Peter Gabriel's "Up"... I heard it over the weekend and it is incredible.  My friend that brought it over said "it's like you're rewarded for having good hifi..."

It's very unlike PG's previous recording quality... very nice.

Lately I have been getting into the Meridian Arts Ensemble, a brass quintet out of the New York area. I am not a big classical fan, but I got into these guys from becoming acquainted with their versions of Frank Zappa pieces (especially their kickass rendition of "Peaches en Regalia" from their "Prime Meridian" CD). They have 2 other CDs with Zappa material, "Smart Went Crazy" and "Ear Mind I". I also took a stylistic leap and bought their "Visions Of the Renaissance" disc (how can one dislike Bach?). Check them out at http://www.meridianartsensemble.com. You can buy their CDs direct mail off of their website and pay by Paypal. These guys are first rate!

Lisa Gerrard's "Duality"
Bought a used copy of "Duality" based on liking all the Dead Can Dance stuff (Lisa was 1/2 of DCD--with Brendan Perry) but has proved too much of the same thing. While the two different singing styles of Perry & Gerrard made for great point-counterpoint and variety with DCD, taking Perry out of the pic makes for a less involving experience.  It reminds me almost of atmospheric background music for a film (Lisa has contributed to "Gladiator" and the new "Whale Rider" films).

Still a worthwhile CD, but not quite what I was hoping for.

Phil Keaggy "Acoustic Sketches"
An Audio Asylum inmate recommended Keaggy to someone asking for Michael Hedges-sounding guitarists.  Keaggy was the local guitar god when he was with Glass Harp in the 70's, but he shifted into Christian music and I lost track/interest in him.  "Acoustic Sketches" is a purely instrumental CD, so the religious aspect is pretty much lost.  The comparison to Hedges is right--it's a very tasty technique that's very enjoyable but not exactly of the sonic fireworks school..
