'classic' rock songs you hate

I never understood the popularity of 'Smoke on the Water'. Hated it then....still do. Clapton's 'Beautiful Tonight' makes me retch too.

Anyone have any others?

Good one Underdog. It sounds like something a bad bar band would play. Gee Wind, you're treading on sacred ground trashing Stairway, however I agree....it is pretty cheesy.

How 'bout another Clapton (sorry to pick on him.....some of the Cream stuff was great)......'Tears in Heaven'.....just sappy crap IMHO.

Not sure it qualifies as "classic rock", but I hate Boys of Summer- Don Henley.

Most Who Songs also...

"Sometimes When We Touch" by Dan Hill

You ask me if I love you and I choke on my reply
I'd rather hurt you honestly than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you on what you say or do
I'm only just beginning to see the real you
And sometimes when we touch
the honesty's too much and I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you till I die
till we both break down and cry
I want to hold you till the fear in me subsides :bawl:

Romance and all its strategy leaves me battling with my pride
But through the insecurity some tenderness survives
I'm just another writer, still trapped within my truths
A hesitant prize fighter still trapped within my youth

And sometimes when we touch
the honesty's too much and I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you till I die
till we both break down and cry
I want to hold you till the fear in me subsides :bawl:

At times I'd like to break you and drive you to your knees
At times I'd like to break through and hold you endlessly
At times I understand you and I know how hard you've tried
I've watch while love commands you
and I've watched love pass you by
At times I think we're drifters, still searching for a friend
A brother or a sister, but then the passion flares again

And sometimes when we touch
the honesty's too much and I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you till I die
till we both break down and cry
I want to hold you till the fear in me subsides :bawl:

I think he wrote that song after the death of his son, whom I believe had tragically fallen from a high rise hotel deck...or something like that.  However, without knowledge of the tragedy, the song sounds pretty cheesy.

It seems like much of this has to do with playing, or overplaying. Stairway to Heaven for example. If you had no cultural or societal knowledge of this song (but you understood Western music in general), I could see many people really digging Stairway. The interesting arpeggios in the beginning, the 'haunting' quality of some of the vocals, the build up, the parts where the harmony progresses downward as the melody goes up...a lot of that is pretty cool, and not found in droves in other rock music of the time. But, over time it's become amazingly cliche and overplayed, and lost a lot of its lustre. I think some of these songs have a chance if you try to have an open mind, listen closely on a good system, and crank them up. Now...there will always be 'I Want You to Want Me', which makes me want to jam a spoon deep in my ears.  :icon_lol:

bprice...yeah I know the story about his son....but it's still a cheesy crappy song.

Space....are you kiddding on the Who? I think "Who's Next" is one of the best rock records ever. Just my opinion...of course.

That's the weird thing about music....one man's trash is another's treasue. Heck, I sort of like "Boys of Summer"....even if it is cheesy and crappy. Makes me think of a really cute girl I dated back then.

 Anything from The Who
 Anything from Billy Joel
We Built This City  (forgot the group)

Boys of Summer- Don Henley -- I use to HATE this song but over the years it has grown on me.

Nope not kidding, just never got into the Who I guess.

As far as B.O.S, that song was played at nauseam during a summer job I had.  So....

I guess hate is a pretty strong word, I just know these songs aren't on my playlists...:)

Some of this stuff doesn't classify as rock, let alone classic rock - Billy Joel??

I despise, loath and vomit to the sounds of U2 – The absolute worst crap next to Duran Duran ever gone popular.

If I were given free tickets to a show with back stage passes, I’d give them away!

That was Starship .... and I probably should have had them on my list too.
