RM/X for sale ***SOLD***

For the lurkers, and current VMPS owners with upgraditis, who want to get Big B's flagship at over 40% off current MSRP, my pair is for sale.  Alons will be here in about a week and the RM/X are far too good (and valuable) to be relegated to rear channel use!

To my knowledge this is the only pair ever to be offered for resale.  Buy them for less than Brian's cost to build them.  The piano black cabinets were made by Dorne Dibble and are exceptional even when compared with the boutique brands.

I have the factory double boxes and original packaging.  Shipping within the USA may be less than you think despite the massive 750 lb weight.  Recent rate quotes from Pilot Air have been very reasonable, and they offer fast door-to-door service.

More info in the AC TradingPost and on the 'gon.  Pics in my gallery too.

Here's my take: He has already pulled most of his hair out.
He is wearing sunglasses to hide his bloodshot eyes.
As he wipes the sweat from his brow, he vacillates
back and forth, perhaps deciding whether or not to
increase his dosage of prozac. (Which is what he looks
                        like)  Cool!

Addendum: The unbridled quest for audio nirvana will take it's toll.

Alon is now Nola.  Most of Carl Marchisotto's designs have carried over.

The Exotica Grand Reference II link doesn't work, which I though was because of an extra "http" but I can't get it to work without that, either.  These look like nice speakers, though.  You need 2 w-channel amps to run them.  Their center channel is about 1/50th of the cost of the GR II.

At first the TacT RCS 2.2X with S2150 amps.  That is my current setup.
I'm looking into some possibilities with the Atma-Sphere MA-2 MKII.3 and BOZ 216/2200 also.

I have owned Atma-Sphere M60's and those suckers literally raised the temp in the room a good 10 degrees easily.  The M60's had 12 tubes in each amp while the MA-2's have 26!!!

Might not be the best choice for a desert dweller.   :flame:

Good point George.  I should have said that was an option only if the build out of my room includes a dedicated AC unit!  If that is not feasible, I'll be sticking with class D or look into variable bias class A units like Krell.

Eric
I know nothing about current Atmasphere amps.  Around 1990 I knew a Phoenix guy with a pair of Atmashpere 200W (allegedly) class A mono OTLs.  They were expensive, unbeleiveably huge, ran hot, & blown up more often than running.

His initials were MG.  He had big ole Soundlab electrostats in a big ole sound room, CAT preamp, & a big doberman.  Nice guy, late fifties now.  Sound familiar?

Older OTL tube designs, like the Futtermans from NYAL and Fourier, have a well deserved reputation for frequent failure and even spontaneous combustion

 :flame:

The modern Atma-Sphere amps are reliable.  But the higher powered models are definitely still expensive, huge, and hot running.

Here is the MA-3, 480 watts of OTL tube loving

The 220 watt MA-2 is more down to earth

These definitely are not high on WAF scale, but I do find them neat in a Russian military chic sort of way.

Other modern OTL amps from Tenor, Transcendant, and Joule Electra are also reliable and more reasonable in size.  Modern OTLs are definitely worthy of consideration for speakers with stable high impedance.

Eric,

It has been 4 years since I listened to the big AtmaSphere monoblocks.  I really liked them.  I'm not aware of any durability issues with recent models.  The triode output tube they use (6AS7G) are the same as those used in the monoblocks I use (KORA Cosmos).  These output tubes are extremely reliable and durable.  My amps have been on 24/7 for over 3 years now, still utilizing the stock tubes.  No problems at all.
