Very, very, cool!  How on earth did you get that spiral with a horizontal axis, no less.  Then it looks like the center is streamed out to the left and the "ribbon" of smoke that makes up the spiral appears to to have an open flared end like a trumpet that has a stream of smoke coming out of the center of that.

Did you set off your home smoke detector yet?  :jester:

Black background, camera on tripod, clip holding match, flash ready to fire upwards.
Light match with lighter, and same time the match lights (flares up), snap the picture. Smoke is different in each picture.
Here's a couple more:

Interesting!  So you aren't moving the match to get those effects, the smoke swirls are a function of the ignition process and how the burn executes.  Pretty cool.

As you can see.......... oil and water doesn't mix. :)

These are not where I learned it, but did a search and found these for you to see.

That's as close as the 50mm lens on the RB67 will focus.  Figure is about 2" tall.

Cute little martian fellow, or whatever it is.
RB67 huh? Nice film camera. I went to school with a guy that had one. How many lenses you have for it?
You might can find a used macro lens pretty cheap, or if you have lenses you don't use, trade for one. Macro work is fun...... :)

I've got a 50, 90 and 250mm.  Actually I think that shot might have been taken with the extension tube and the 50mm.  It's not the most useful item ever, it only really works with the 50mm lens, the others can't seem to focus on anything with it.

jvc,

Outstanding.  :thumb: You found so much beauty in transient events and froze them for posterity.

What did you use as the background for the smoke pictures?

Here's my macro setup for the oil & water pics. For the smoke pics, I lowered the tripod, put the box with black cloth over it on the table, for the background, pointed the camera forward, and set flash on table.

This inspired me to bring out my SLR once again.  :)

If you are old enough, you would know what this is.

Here is a clue.  ;)
