Just upgraded my iPhone 4 to IOS 5.  Now what?

I still need to explore the new features but so far so good!   :thumb:

For me, so far, Notifications and Reminders are big plusses (especially with location-based service). Overall, it also seems to be easier on the eyes.

Can't wait to start talking to Siri. Guess I'll have to wait till Friday.  :P

How long did the update take? I'm currently updating an Ipod Touch I own and its taking quite a while for the fifth step (I dont really update it with my computer too often, but its been a few hours already for some reason with...20GB of data+)

I understand that, it's been a while and I'm confused because it says 'Syncing Artwork'

Anyways...back to impressions of this new stuff...

Won't Siri only be for 4S users? Will my regular 4 access her?

From PC World:

Siri: If you're smitten with Apple's futuristic voice-operated personal assistant, you'll need the iPhone 4S: Siri requires that model's dual-core A5 processor. But Siri may not be your thing, and if it is, there are several Siri alternatives that work great on older-model iPhones.

ICloud syncing and pushing of music and apps is nice. No iTunes required.

BTW, there are updates for OS X, iTunes, ATV, Aperture, iPhoto, and a few other Apple apps. All due to the iOS 5 release.

I upgraded my iTunes prior to the update to the IOS 5.

Thanks of the iPhoto, Mac OS X update tip.

Today is so slow.  I am currently updating my iPad2 and so far 4hrs...Make sure you are not going to be needing your device(s) at the time of the update.

I'm missing something. Both my iMac and my iPhone are up to date. I downloaded the Cloud upgrade to my iMac last night. The Apple website says to just connect my iPhone to my PC or Mac and follow the instructions in iTunes.

The problem I'm having is I cannot find those instructions. Where are they?

Yes - I am using Lion. However, as I read this thread, I find myself wondering if I really do want IOS5. Is it worthwhile or not?

The upgrade went perfectly for me (iPhone 4) and I find that it's a huge improvement over iOS 4. Everything OS-related is faster - going into folders, going into settings, switching apps, opening the camera, etc. MUCH faster actually. The new notifications system isn't perfect but it's a big improvement. Having a camera button that comes up on the lock screen with a double-tap of the home button (and the fact that it gets me to a working camera in about a second) probably single-handedly keeps me from dumping this phone for an android. I would still prefer a larger screen, now there's at least a chance I will stick with Apple once I'm upgrade eligible.

Everything went smoothly for me, updating an iPod Touch. iCloud seems pretty cool.

Everything else is minor updates to me. Will have to dig around in the next few days. Seems a bit faster overall.

I lost all of my contacts. They could not be restored. For those of you who are counting that's over 30 phone numbers that I have find some how and manually enter into the phone. If you upgrade to iOS5 be damn sure you have everything backed up in iTunes and that it will take your password which enables you import all of your data and apps.  This upgrade amounts to a reformatting of the hard drive in your phone rendering it a blank slate.  The upside is I can finally post from my iPhone to AC.  Scotty
