Good one Jerry. Actually I have 3, for the different genres.   :thumb:

For Classical: KING 98.1, Seattle
For Blues & Jazz:  KPLU 88.5, Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma
For Classic Rock (in the vehicles): KZOK 102.5, Seattle

WFUV - indie, folk-rock, alt-country, etc., in NYC

WQXR - classical, in Newark, NJ (in the last couple of years when they moved from NYC and traded frequencies - pretty weak signal now   )

But now I have a Squeezebox touch and lots of stations to explore and choose from!

KXCI - an independent commercial free community radio station with real disk jockeys in Tucson AZ. The playlist includes the latest indie artists to folk to rock to jazz to country western, sometimes all in a 20 minute set.

They stream the broadcast too. I currently use A Online Radio in my Android Nook when on the go.

Best ever (IMHO) is WWOZ.org on the internet where I live  :icon_lol:

Crosses genres, DJs tend to be people in the business and they bring a lot of their own library in; so lots of "new to you" music.

Strong focus on live performance; pretty much if an artist shows up, they put them on the air live.

It's not where I live now, because there are no good radio stations in the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area :( ; but the best radio station I have heard is KCBO 97.3 FM in Boulder Colorado--World Class Rock. They have a show called Studio C where artists come in and play live on the radio. The also do a limited issue CD at the end of the year of their DJs favorite new artists. People stand in line to obtain a copy.

I have to edit this post because Bob, the owner of 4000 Holes in Spokane told me about KPDN 95.3 in Sandpoint ID. I have listened in the car and on the clock radio in my bedroom for about 3 weeks now and this is an excellent progressive music radio station with rock at its core. We now have ONE good radio station in the Spokane/Coeur d' Alene area. :thumb:

I thought KEWU 89.5 (Eastern Washington University) out of Cheney was pretty good.

I've never listened to it in my 15 years in the area, so I just tuned it in and I now know why I have never listened to it--it was playing jazz and the vinyl lady never listens to jazz.

Ortho can't understand jazz but maybe someday in the future I will get into it. Hope it's not too much off topic but the word "EVER" makes me want to say WNEW NYC in the 1970's. Seems like so many of these DJ's are on XM/Sirius now!

Zacherle, The Nightbird, Scotso, Dave Herman, Pete Fornatele, Jonathan Schwartz, Scelsa. Some of them were on WABC/WPLJ before they went to AOR format playlist. I was actually very upset when that happened and half the staff quit on the spot. Bonus points if you know what WPLJ stood for.

WFMU when they were in East Orange, NJ was also great. Scelsa started out there and my favorite DJ of all time: The Duck, who passed away recently. He was a teacher at Clifford Scott HS and coached the Tennis team there.  Got me into Rossini. Bonus points if you know what college WFMU was affiliated with back then.

"White Port and Lemon Juice" was a R&B tune first released by The 4 Deuces in 1955.  I think I remember hearing it on the radio.  Don't know where else I might have heard it except for maybe a house party, or two.

Saturday nights, R&B on WRR-FM in Dallas, Texas.  One of the very first FM stations, I believe.  The station was all classical otherwise.  AM radio all black station KNOK from Ft. Worth.  I can guarantee that Steve Miller and Boz Scaggs were tuned in, too.  NPR radio mostly these days and since Univ of Rice radio was sold.

Portland OR

92.3 - KGON
Classic Rock

I'm sick and tired of the newer music that plagues Portlands local radio waves. I'm of the age were classic rock is new to my ears.

OPB - Oregon Public Broadcasting
News/Talk Radio

OPB is my source for current events/news. One of the few media sources that does not use scare tactics in their programing.

Sorry to say that the FCC shut down my favorite station, Kyote Radio... which operated as a 5 watt powerhouse for the ghost town of Terlingua for 10 years that I know of, maybe longer.  The ladies of the community did impose regulations, insisting that they stop referring to the F%*^ing FCC on the air, but that other nearly equally descriptive adjectives were acceptable.  For some reason, the feds decided to travel to this little town near Mexico last year and threatened to imprison the offenders.  My days of hearing Rachmaninoff, Oscar Peterson, Dire Straits, and the Light Crust Dough Boys - all back to back with zero commercials- is over.

Enjoyed WNEW-FM 102.7 back then...

Still catch Vin Scelsa on a Saturday night on WFUV...Idiot's Delight...always an interesting show.

Dang, sounds like that's one I may have missed if I had known about it.

In this area it's WTMD (Univ of Towson down by Ballmore) and WXPN (Univ of PA).
My favorite was WFMU from Upsala in Joisey when I lived in that area.  My parents and sister attended Upsala way back when.
