BP-27 Wish List
« on: 26 Sep 2011, 11:16 pm »
With some of the discussion on the perfect preamp, I was thinking that it might be fun / interesting to put together a list of potential areas for improvement and/or functionality.

To start my thoughts were as follows:

Given that Bryston uses discrete circutry and power transformers in it's amplifiers for left vs. right channels - would it not seem like a potential enhancement to take a similar approach for the preamplifiers i.e. a separate and discrete power supply for the left vs. right channel in the preamplifier???

Yes, Soundgame's suggestion would be great to see happen James; if there is a new preamp on the horizon. :thumb:

1.  Home Theater pass-through
2.  Remote controlled source selection
3.  Balanced and single ended connectors for each input and output
4.  Drop the separate power supply
5.  Line level output for the BHA-1
6.  Target price < $5000

Tone Controls!

I'm more likely to get a Bryston tube pre than you are to get tone controls

A dedicated outboard all out power supply for starters. A reverse polarity switch, a display light on/off switch, HT bypass, balance control or dual mono with two attenuators.
A wood faceplate as an option.  :thumb:

Agreed Diamond Dog.

When I get around to building my music server, I'll most likely be playing around with digital eq's.

The only thing I ever tweak on my Parasound pre-amp is the bass and then it only gets boosted or cut by 1 or 2 clicks.

Ummm - the bp26 already has a number of these i.e. outboard power supply, phase/polarity switch, on/off display light, balance control, dual mono design - with the exception of the power transformer - not sure what you were trying to say here...?

To add to my earlier - I'd like to see position marking around the attenuator/volume pot, perhaps in dB with also a lighted position indicator on the pot.  This would help to identify and perhaps record the volume position (favorite) for a said recording or album for future reference.  It also helps in A/B testing to adjust for volume differences as you can make the adjustment to the volume pot back and forth to a more precise degree.

I think the power supply idea is that there could be(like the power amps) two  transformers L+R. I guess what this would mean is that the whole preamp  would be a monoblock arrangement. Is there really any advantage , :dunno:

1.a With 12 volt HT bypass trigger that works when BP27 is in standby
7.   More detailed volume control
8.   A digital readout for the volume setting.
9.   Remote controlled power
10. RS-232 or IR input
11. All 12 volt triggers should use the much more common mini-jack

Would also like to see:
a. Modular DAC card that is at least dealer upgradable. i.e. two AES inputs, 1 AES 2 coax, 2 coax 2 digital.
b. Input trim

Just basically improve the power supply, all else is already there.  :thumb:

Realistically, James , are there any plans to alter or further evolve the bp26 in the near future.?  Thanks
