teres "revision b"

edwin is another audio buddy of mine. I finally completed his teres project redo. I made the platter, plinth, armboard. The plinth is bolted to a piece I pulled from an old valve that is cast steel and has a large rubber seat isolating the plinth from the base. Total weight on this guy is less than Tuans...

here is his deck with just the platter pre-plinth...

Very nice. I'm perhaps 80% done with my Teres rebuild. I picked up the Verus motor/controller last year at RMAF and took delivery in February; this was expected as Chris told me up front it would be quite some time for delivery. That prompted a redo of everything else.

I purchased a platter and bearing assembly for one of the Teres Certus direct drive units as Chris had some assorted parts that were not production quality and needed rework. I've completed most of that and will be gluing up the plinth today and with any luck turning the captive nuts for the footers and the footers as well. Still have to make a new arm board but I have some 1.5" thick phenolic sheet and some 2.5" dia brass, so I should be able to carve out something suitably massive and rigid for arm board. With any luck it will be spinning next by next weekend, we shall see.

Really nice work on this one.  :thumb:

Look forward to seeing the build. It would be fun to do a build around on a certus unit.
What arm and cart are you running?

I have a Moerch DP-6 and a Scheu-Benz, basically a Scheu modified Benz Glider.

Of course things didn't go as quickly as planned but I did manage to get the plinth glued up, the bearing hole in and the counter bores that allow the bearing hosing to recess into the plinth and a counter bore on the bottom for a bolt and washer to retain the bearing mount. Since the Certus bearing normally bolts to it's base, I had to concoct something to mount it with. I ended up turning a housing the base of the bearing fits in out of 2.5" brass and this shanks down to .750 through the plinth. I wanted to use a bigger shank but my lathe will only take 3/4" in the headstock. But since nearly all of the 2.5" section sits in the plinth the shank is mostly there for torsional strength.

Managed to get a few other little bits done but still a lot to do. Was kinda weird using a boring head in the mill on maple.  :o

I won't stink up your thread with this, will start one for the build as more parts become ready.

Another nice table from "bill" table guy...
I heard Edwin's table when it was on the butcher block and it sounded wonderful, I bet it sounds amazing now!

Thanks again Bill!

Bill the table guy, has a nice ring to it. The one he built for you is spectacular.

yes, that plinth and armpod is quite something, isn't it?
had a chance to listen to it for about 1 hr today, sounds really nice.  dead quiet and brings all the nuances out of the recording!  :thumb:

stink away, Mike.
I need pictures of your operations, if possible.
Do you have a benchtop lathe?

Bill,

Beautiful job.  :notworthy:

You gotta build me a Teres Plinth with many armboards.  I am tired of going from one table to another for different albums.

Yeah, just a little 8x14. Beefier than the really light 7x12 but not exactly a Monarch. :) I'd love something larger but I just don't have space for it. Thankfully I have friends with bigger machines if I really need to get something done. Also a clone of the Rong-Fu RF45 mill, nothing special though I did get a DRO for it, so serviceable is what I'd call it. Again, friends with larger stuff if it's something I can't manage but I hate to bug them. Bought them from lathemaster.com some years ago when we still received bonuses.

The images are not my machines but they look the same except my mill has power feed for the Z and buttons for forward/reverse.

Rim, here are some closeups of the sme mount. Are you running all sme arms?

I put a detail on the back of the arm mount for rcas, but I can do a balanced detail.
