Over in the solid state circle i've been having a great thread re integrated's.

bought a Creek A50i (no N. American mfg's in this $ i paid range but at least the guy i bought it from supports our economy){hipocrisy... i know, but lesser of two evils}

i've auditioned a lot of speakers in my day but here's the deal.

i want a N. American speaker list of manufactures that make a reasonably priced speakers ($1000.00).

There are several on this site, but I'm not sure if they all have speakers in your price range.

GR Research (although you might have to do some assembly, DIY)
Salk (I don't know if Jim has a model in your range)
Magnepan (the MMG is in your price range but might not be a good match for your amp).  All made in USA.
Selah has some DIY options in your range, kits.
Classic Klipsch *used is a good option.
Odyssey
Omega
Paradigm is made in Canada including their drivers (not sure about their lower end).
Axiom are made in Canada from Chinese parts.  They have speakers in your range.
VMPS - lots of great deals on used market these days in your range.

That's it from me...

I have not owned these, but have heard the midrange model, and overall the brand receives very favorable reviews.

Ascend Acoustics
San Clemente, CA

3 main models of stand mounted speakers ranging from ~ $375 to $890 shipped, and their first tower model to debut shortly.

Don't overlook Polk, the more snobbish segment of the audio world turns up their noses at them but they are good value for money.

How about Vandersteen?  Don't know if you want to buy new or not, but they make (and made) some great speakers.  Used they can be a terrific value.

And don't forget the Canadian guru Paul Barton and his PSB speakers.  Several models under $1000.  Jim Salk was mentioned, he does have Songbirds in standard finishes for about $1300, a little over budget but worth it.  And the best for last, Soundfield Audio by our own AJinFla with his Model 1 presently priced at $998.  These are "you have to hear it to believe it" speakers.  25hz-20khz range with jaw dropping dynamics, in a medium sized bookshelf speaker.

Couple more

Zu - I think that that the Omen are on close out for $999
Tekton - Have several under $1,000

I plan to buy from Salk. But, will be paying more than your limit.

Fritz Speakers - made in California. Sometimes Fritz has demos and sales, and he's a great guy to work with...

+1 for Soundfield Audio Monitor 1. That's an awesome concept with some solid science/engineering behind it. 5.5" coaxial KEF driver paired with an 8" sealed sub in its own enclosure.

Here's the thread where AJ explains them. He gets to the nitty gritty later in the thread: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=91026.0

Agreed. Fritz Speakers kick a$$.  :thumb:

The Fritz Carbon 7s were named Stereomojo's 2010 Product of the Year for Best Small Speaker Value. Not only that, they sound bitchin'.  :D

The Fritz REV 5s are some of the most resolving speakers I have ever heard. Seriously, they are hard to believe.

Neither is within your stated budget, but definitely worth considering.

Best of luck with your search,

Jerry

Is it OK if someone asks specifically for speakers made in a country that is NOT in North America?

Just checking...

Lots of excellent recommendations so far.

Two more Canadian brands I have had success with are Totem and Focus Audio.  Both are distributed in the US I am sure.

Actually, I'd be quite interested in seeing list of audio equipment based on country of origin.
Would be interesting to see where things are made.

I'd be interested in learning about equipment made (within a reasonable definition of the term) in Australia, New Zealand, and other nearby countries. I should say made and available from.

If you are a DIY Guy, look into Selah Audio. Rick Craig sells kits complete with assembled crossovers, drivers, port tubes, etc. Or even if you aren't, there are a few models less than 1k such as the MF7, or Aura Jr.

He can build all of these as complete speakers. http://www.selahaudio.com/id268.html

Note that most "American made" speakers use drivers/crossover components made elsewhere.  Hawthorne is the exception that comes to mind (large drivers/small open baffles, highly efficient, remarkably deep bass, high value).

I'll put in a plug for brinesacoustics.com (who made my speakers) from Arkansas.

And I'll plug Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 (I own the original version and love them).  Very musical, great imaging, high value, crummy standard finishes.

This list would not be complete without Ed's Horns.  Ed is as American as you can get!  Here is a link:
