I thought I've been in HOG mode all along...I guess not.  It will not let me select it.

Then either memory playback is not selected, or your DAC is still owned by Audio Midi.  Deselect it and choose "internal output"

Tried it already...Memory play is selected.

Can u show screenshots of what I showed?  Is your DAC listed in the device list above the hog mode checkbox?

Umm, thanks John. As far as I can tell, that button merely enables/disables dithering. I was hearing that there was a button to disable volume control itself, but I think that there is none.

No - just set it to zero (if that's what you want)

Sorry guys, it appears that some of the control names I hear through VoiceOver are not what you guys see on the screen.  Rob and I  found ths out when he was remoted in and helping me find some of the controls -- btw, I have yet to try 1.8 as my system is down for upgrades and mods and building of a dedicated listening room, so I haven't checked out anything since 1.74a and maybe these controls are either no longer there or speak the same name now as the one you guys see on the screen -- Rob had said he would be making some changes as in addition to thisproblem there were many controls I wasn't seeing at all -- like hog mode support, a control to select the dac, etc. -- all pretty important stuff.

I'll be moving all my computers this weekend so I'll try the mini, upgrade PM and report  back with what I find.

Actually, I think you have to both -- disable dithering and set the output to 0 dB, or as Ted said, switch to integer mode.

I will try it again tonight or tomorrow if I'm not working.  If not, I will post some screen shots (if I can figure that out with Mac).   :duh:

I did it this a.m.

What I found out is that I had to "configure speakers" when deselecting my dac.

Oh well, looks good now!    :thumb:  Can you discern a difference?  For me it was quite startling good.

I haven't really listened to it other then making sure it worked.  I've been busy working.
