Nice one! The Oppo 93 looks like a great piece of kit. I kinda want one. Are you outputting your audio via analog out from the Oppo (using its DAC) or are you going digital out to an external DAC?
I didn't know about Twonky. How do you like it (GUI, user experience, ease of setup, etc.)?
I output the audio via analog from the Oppo to my tube pre-amp. The DAC in the 93 is pretty good, in fact better than my tube DAC ever was. There is also an Oppo 95 which is built and sold as an audiophile quality machine with a better DAC, analog circuit and upgraded power supply. The video is the same as the 93 though.
When it comes down to it, Twonky doesn't play much of a role beyond turning my iMac into a server. Once set up you don't really use it much. The interface is on the Oppo, and that interface is mediocre, but functional. The whole setup though didn't take long to put together, maybe I played with it for an hour and it works. It sounds good to my ears and I couldn't tell the difference between playing a ripped CD over the setup vs. playing the disk in the Oppo.
My guess is that the biggest problem with USB output is the electrical connection messes with the analog by adding noise. Wireless avoids that. Bits are bits, and if you can't transfer the bits 100% you are doing something really wrong.
