While I can tolerate their growling vocals, I can not help but think how much more I'd like their CDs with all clean vocals.
That's like saying " I like the Oscar Peterson Trio but I'd like them a lot better if that one guy would lay off that damned piano once in a while..." D.D.
Not at all.I wouldn't listen to Oscar Peterson if I didn't like his piano playing. The most important thing to the Oscar Peterson Trio is Oscar Peterson. With regards to Opeth, the most important thing is not their growling vocals. I like everything about them (their compositions, their musicianship, their lyrics, their clean vocals) except the growling vocals. They don't bother me enough for me to not like the band, only enough for me to know I'd enjoy them more if they didn't use them. Not to mention that they already released an album with all clean vocals, Damnation. And it was the band that decided not to have any growling vocals on the new one.
If you like Opeth and want to take that sound to the next level of musicianship I suggest a band called The Ocean from Germany. It's all in English, of course. I own all their albums and honestly it is a few steps above. All their albums are themed and sound different so if you are really interested PM me.
Album's been out for a week and a half now. No comments? Very curious to hear what all the Opeth fans think.
I've actually read a very technical piece about how opeth is really not how you put them musically.
