I read the Touch will improve significantly if used with a good linear power supply instead of the switchng supply that comes std. I know these things can be purchased in the US and Europe, but I live in Argentina and would like to explore the DIY route.

What makes for a good quality linear power supply?

Feel free to get technical and/or point to other sources, drawings, etc.

Thanks!
Horacio

you can get a made up psu for £100 from the UK, suggest that is easier than making your own?

I just had one of these modded by Bolder Cable and am breaking it in (got it yesterday) - http://www.herbach.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HAR&Product_Code=TM93PWS2476&Category_Code=PWS

You need to buy two and I think it is under $30 with shipping.  It comes with the wrong connector (as part of their mod Bolder Cable changes the connector).  I'd think it would be an improvement over the stock PS.  I'm breaking it in and I also use power supplies that can fit the touch with HDMI audio-de-embedders (one in the main system and one in the secondary system).  Hopefully when this one gets broken in another Audio Circle member will bring over his Touch and we will compare the Bolder modded Jerome Unit, the Channel Islands and the Welbourne.  I'll keep the two best ones in the main system and use the other in the basement system on the HDMI audio de-embedder.

Sola, also makes a PS that would be suitable.  They sell the PS and cover separately at places like newark.com.  Sometimes you can find them cheaper on E-Bay.  Was also considering that route but have been too busy.  Going that route, one would need to connect a cable with the proper connector (which probably can be bought at places like Parts Express).

Not to toot my own horn, but look here. This same supply I built/designed will work for the Touch as well. This is a simple Ei Core transformer -> Full wave bridge Hexfred diodes -> Capacitor-> Choke -> Capacitor to get about 12 V DC pre regulated. Then that is connected to a Paul Hynes shunt regulator to get 5V DC regulated.

Best,
Anand.

I bought one of those for my Touch PS.

Now you're going to ask me how it sounds, and I have to admit that I never even tried the stock supply.  I know, very non-audiophile of me, but I've already got too many cables, tubes, amps, preamps, speakers to swap!

Seemed nicely made, though.

Anand, very nice!

We forgive the non-audiophile :green:  I'm breaking in a Bolder modded Jerome as noted above to be audiophile and compare three PS.  We'll see as I have power conditioning too if there is a difference I can hear
