I ordered bdp & had it delivered to my mom's 8/18. She was not home. Called fedex & had it rerouted to the local office for me to pick up. Guess what it won't be there till 8/22. They got to be kidding me  the difference is 11 miles! Sorry needed to rant, fedex, ups they all suck! I would have liked to have the unit for the weekend! Now I 'll driver to the other office  & try to pick it up.

Drove to Fedex and picked up the BDP. Of course there is a big hole in the box. At least I have all weekend to figure the BDP out and see if there is any damage. :?

If it's a new one in a Bryston box, I doubt there will be damage, probably just a dent/hole in the cardboard.  That said, if someone took a pic-axe to it then who knows....
Enjoy the player - should be a FUN weekend!

I would have partially unpacked it at the FedEx location with an employee watching.  I would have unpacked it at least enough to check for damage from the puncture.

One time UPS delivered a punctured box containing an expensive amplifier. The driver volunteered to wait while I checked for damage. I consider him an above average driver and he makes frequent stops at my home. He is always curious about what new toy I am getting in the surprisingly heavy boxes. Fortunately a double box with space between the boxes proved adequate protection that time--barely.

Hi,I worked at Fed Ex for 5 years as a package handler and courier. As good as you can package any thing up,this is what happens. The package goes by manpower into a van, then to a belt that goes into a quanset hut looking freight can that goes into a jet that then goes to Memphis, this is over night not ground service which was non existant when I worked there. In the hub in Memphis the packages of all different weights take a tumbled drop onto another huge belt system to load up all the jets to take off very early in the morn. The pressure managment put on employees was so stressfull that I saw many couriers take it out on packages. The stress is what made me quit.If you shipped a vacuum tubed amp, even if double packed, with the tubes in the sockets,I'd say your chance would be 50/50 for damage.Frank VanAlStine used to mention this in his letter about the dangers of shipping tubes. This was 1985 to 1991 when I worked there.Things may have changed dramatically,as Frank must know how to ship his UltraValve with out damage.I think I read he ships with the tubes already in the sockets.May be he has some tips on the subject, but thats my 2 cents worth...sincerely...Mark Korda

Hi Laundrew, nice work, thanks for making my point. Here's one more point.I think one thing changed that I might of had a part in.When I worked at Fed Ex it was absolute Taboo to leave a package with out a signature. In the late 80's to 90's I started to take chances and leave 2 kinds of packages with out a signature. They were not in plain brown rappers, they had what they were plastered all over the box. They were the (Gut Buster)a cheap abdominal work out devise that I found under my mothers TV,all dusty, and The (Helsinki Formula) a cheap grow hair on your head product that didn't work.I didn't want to embarrass bald, fat, and maybe some one going thru chemotherepy people.A few were taken, but I didn't lose my job as I told managment what I just wrote. The policy soon changed. But,If I had a small footlong package with the return address of Adam and Eve,I was sure to wait for a signature,I'm only human!.......Mark Korda
