No kidding. I saw The The with Johnny Marr open up for Depeche Mode in the early 90's (Songs of Faith and Devotion tour) and can honestly say they were one of the top 5 bands I ever saw live. They did a short 30 minute set, but it was riveting from the first harmonica note to the last cymbal splash. I sat in my chair looking at the stage saying over and over "Are you f-ing kidding me!" "Are you f-ing kidding me!" We didn't even know they were the opening band because the tickets said "Depeche Mode w/Special Guest". Yeah, best "Special Guest" EVER!

I saw the same tour with them opening for Depeche Mode. I've seen a lot of shows and that one still ranks in my Top 5 of all time. One thing I'm not clear on though, is that I was told Marr didn't tour so was it him we saw?
Marr toured with them previously (see below), but I can't find anything that shows he was with them when we saw them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3_m6eVSMWEhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FE56Y8kiiB0Link to Johnny Marr's website:http://www.johnnymarrplaysguitar.com/a-long-list/the-the/
