Any recommendations for a high quality digital media transport to be used with the AVA DAC would be greatly appreciated.

1.  Bryston BDP-1 Digital Player
2.  Apple Mac Mini using iTunes + Pure Music software player

The BDP-1 has a coaxial S/PDIF output.

If the AVA DAC has an optical input you can use the optical out of the Mac Mini for up to 24/96 or use a high quality external USB to S/PDIF converter (a) if it doesn't have an optical input, (b) for up to 24/192 or (c) for the best sounding interface.

The Vision EC DAC has 4 inputs, 2 toslink, 2 S/PDIF.

I believe an Oppo has a nice performance to price ratio.

I though "digital media transport" was referring to a digital file player, but Kwebb might have in fact been simply referring to a universal disc player.

I got much, much better audio results hooking a DAC by SPDIF cable to a dedicated CD player rather than a BluRay or a DVD/CD player. I tried several DVD/CD players including Oppo. Something about a whole lot of "Jitter" in a DVD/CD player whereas a dedicated CD player has less "Jitter"

The OP is looking for a "media" transport, so that is not a CD player.

I use an Airport Express and Squeezebox Duet that are much to my liking. If you are an Apple-head, Airport Express with AirTunes is the way to go. If you have loads of FLAC files, Squeezebox will work marvelously.
