Anyone frustrated with SqueezeBox Software?
« on: 22 May 2011, 01:32 pm »
Particularly, Squeeze Server. They're on version 7.5.4, and STILL can't get it right. For instance, I'm playing an album right now and using the web interface to the server. The right hand side, which shows the upcoming songs, has the incorrect artwork for two songs.  Yet if I run my wife's iPad and her app, that app has the correct artwork for the same songs.

That's insane that they would have the incorrect artwork and they're on the 7th version.  And, I completely rescanned twice this week already (one time because the client kept quitting after every song and one time because I realized the Server automatically used iTunes, so I had duplicates of every song).

The only issue I've ever had with the software is that I have to delete and rescan my entire library to get all the album artwork to show up when I add new music.  Other than that, the software has worked flawlessly for me.  I've never seen the issue you've stated.

I have not had extensive time to use my Touch but I've had issues with the way it reads things.  Granted, where I have it reading the files was set-up for an old Microsoft Zune and I've never spend much time looking into it as it is in my future plans to get a new PC with the next 6 months or so (I got a 1TB USB 3.0 hard drive sitting in the box I got about a month back as a reminder).  Just trying to get other stuff done (audio and non-audio) before I tackle it.

No problems for me either (knock on wood).  I've been digging using the iPad as a remote.  It actually has the interface that I was looking for, never been much of a fan of their web browser based interface.

"frusterated"? Umm....no, that's not the word I'd use.

I've had more issues with sooo many version of firmware that I could just puke. I've got threads scattered on three or four different forums, asking more people about how to fix the "weird thing going on now", than I care to count.
I friggen hate it. Something about the system pisses me off on darn near a daily basis.
The mods that Wayne at Bolder are its only redeaming factor, and probably the only reason I keep the stuff. It sounds awesome (thanks again Wayne).

But ......

Ugh......  :duh:

I should stop now. I feel a rant coming on.  :evil:

SB software friggin sucks ass big time. I finally have figured out the main tricks to get it to do most of what you want. RE album artwork I've just given up completely on that. If it has the artwork great, if not I just don't concern myself with it. there seems t be no rhyme or reason to it's accuracy. Sometimes I'll do something as simple as re rip a cd and suddenly the dumb thing can't find the artwork anymore. It's just unpredictable and poorly laid out.

The Touch hasn't caused me grief, but an earlier version SB did and I returned it within two weeks.

Once I controlled the Touch from the server only (that is, I never touch the Touch, in fact with software mods the screen is blank  :icon_twisted:) and ran it wired (vs wireless), no problems.

As for album art, if I ensure that dbpoweramp has the correct art, there isn't a problem with the Touch (of course there are some obscure CDs for which the art doesn't exist).

The interface isn't great but works fine.  Thankfully there is the search function for those of us who are soon to clog the social security ranks.

Hope you find a solution.

I had an awful issue with the SB Duet when it first came out; so much so that I got rid of it in favor of an Apple TV instead.

I now use a PS Audio PerfectWave DAC/Bridge to stream, and for me has been pretty decent. I know some people have had issues.

The Duet would never stay on my network, and thusly would never really work right.

The DAC/Bridge has been there day in and day out since I got it for Christmas last year; so, so far so good.

I don't think I would buy another SB product again.

On a semi related side note, I don't think I would ever buy a logitech product again. I have a Harmony 1100 that my wife got me for my birthday last year, and its complete and utter crap. It works half the time when I press the button. Its completely not customizable; its pretty limited for its 500 dollar price.

I have a pair of Touch and before them a pair of SB3 and thus have used many generations of Squeezebox software.  I've also helped a few others both by phone and  in person and find Squeeze Box Server and the firmware generally less troublesome than most consumer software packages.
I have Souncheck's Touch Toolbox 2.0 installed as well as Wayne's analog mods and I'm presently using SBS version 7.6 on my second server.  I've stopped bothering w/ cover art as the display is shut down by the software mods.  Sound playback quality for dollar spent is the main concern to me.
I honestly haven't had that many problems w/ this software and in comparison to many other things like VPN software and anti-Malware packages, its been very solid.

I find it ironic, and slightly scary that the ad banner at the bottom of the screen is for a product called "Tune-Up", and adverstises the ability to 'fix' you music library, artwork included:
====================
fixes you music collection.
Automagially.
====================
And yes, it really said "automagically".

During one version of firmware I had cut outs but it seems to be fixed.  Does the squeeze software get album art?  For mine it seems if db poweramp gets the art it works perfect but for past stuff it's a crap shoot and it defaults to one album art for some reason.  Overall I don't love the software I have not found a cost effective replacement.  Honestly for the money there is no real alteratives that have the options of the touch.

The ads just scan the text and post things that might be related. Like if I talk about Braun shavers an ad with that content might pop up...  :icon_lol:

It would be interesting to see what logitech product you are using, if it has been modded, how you are controlling it and computer info.  I have had no problems with any of the above mentioned...except, well, my computer died... :roll:  Yes, I went back to a real cd player and am looking for a new windows machine.
SB3, non moded, ipeng, XP
