Responding only to the subject... YES, YES and YES...  The software drives me crazy.

The only issue I've ever had with the software is that I have to delete and rescan my entire library to get all the album artwork to show up when I add new music.  Other than that, the software has worked flawlessly for me.  I've never seen the issue you've stated.

My experience mirrors yours with flawless operation. And my Squeezebox has all the SoundCheck Mods.  My server is running on a Mac tho, and I use the SqueezePad controller app, if any of that makes a difference.

I have two SB3's and a Transporter and have had only minor issues with the software.  I realize that it's probably not for everybody, however.

Overall, I'd say: some of the best money I've ever spent on stereo equipment.

I feel bad for people that are having problems. I wish people who are having issues would post more details about their setup. I have been using Squeezebox's since they were made by a company called Slimdevices. I have had a few hiccups over the years but by and large the various version of the server software have performed flawlessly. I have never had any issues with album art that I can recall. I run the server software on a small hp mediasmart server. I have the server and touch wired and I have two sb3's running wireless.

I've been using Squeezebox players for almost 10 years (started with the SliMP3) and have not had too many issues over the years. It's not been a 100% perfect experience, but the problems pale in comparison to some of the fights I've had with Microsoft Windows programs during that same time period.

The main catch is SBS is open source software designed to run on various versions of MS Windows, as well as Apple and Linux systems. That's a pretty broad undertaking, especially given the zillion other programs it may interact with.

If Sonos does what you want, the way you want it, their closed system is going present fewer potential headaches. However, I think my Touch player is great. SBS manages my 50,000+ song database quickly and with incredibly flexible access. I don't think I've ever had a problem that wasn't readily fixed by a rescan, a cache flush or a couple of inquiries to run down what has usually been an error on my part.

Of course, I have a dedicated music server that doesn't do any other duties. That goes a long way to reducing problems.

Any product that sells a bunch of units is going to have a few users here and there that just aren't good fits. They'd been better off with something else. Squeezebox is not going to be any different in that regard.

I have been using two SB3s for a few years and the software has worked very well for me. After reading some of the comments, I guessing my using iTunes and its' xml database and also including the art work in each song file has helped minimize my problems.

Seems it's newest trick is to make my playlists dissappear.
I've spent a LOT of time building playlists, only for them to not only dissappear from the Squeeze software, but also from the HDD.

Gone.......just........gone...... :dunno:

Bob
have you tried to clear the music files and then re scan the entire directory again. This worked for me

Yip. took me five and one half hours to rescan the library yesterday.  :?
The combination of an old PC, and a large library is a death wish.

But I checked the HDD where the playlists are stored, and the ones missing are not listed there either.

The right hand side, which shows the upcoming songs, has the incorrect artwork for two songs.  Yet if I run my wife's iPad and her app, that app has the correct artwork for the same songs.
Could it be possible that these two songs have incorrect artwork embedded in the tag?
I imagine that the web interface is retrieving artwork for each song, while a mobile app might be optimized and assumes the same art for the entire album.
Check out the tags of these two songs!

By the way, I have had issues with squeezebox server too, stuttering sound after an upgrade or the service not starting without any error logged.
The server runs on Debian Wheezy.
I converted to musicpd and it sounds fantastic with bypassing alsa and directly addressing the usb-dac. The remote control on my iPod Touch is very basic, compared to iPeng and I miss the pandora.com plugin, but ala, each and every solution has advantages and disadvantages!

I've been very impressed by Squeezebox software, especially regarding how much they continue to support it and update it at no additional cost.

That said, nothing is perfect.  Two major annoyances to me are (1) it's insistence on static playlists rather than dynamic ones and (2) (minor annoyance) the 500 song limit in playlists.  The static versus dynamic is important to me as my music is spread over a couple of external hard drives.  If I move something-or more likely the drive letter changes on a reboot-my playlists are all screwed up until I manually edit them.

Every day for the past couple weeks, the SB3 will stop outputting audio (the VU meters are "displaying music"). I have to turn the unit off and back on.
The past couple days, that's not working and I have to unplug the unit and start over.

Ahhh the joy......

Lucky me!  SB Server has started shutting down on its own again. Joy...

Thump553:

To change the 500 song playlist limit go to:

Settings -> Advanced -> Performance -> Maximum Playlist Length

I use song shuffle to change up playlist song order.  Check out this page for more dynamic playlist plugin info.

Thanks for the tip.  I have a massive playlist (WYEP's essential 914 songs) that I had to break up.

By static vs. dynamic, what I meant was in creating the playlist, a static playlist specifies the song at a particular place (ie, C:/Music/Beatles/Abbey Road/Here Comes The Sun.flac) and dynamic would list it in the playlist as Here Comes The Sun.flac.  From what I was told about a year ago, slimserver works only with static playlists.

Yes. If the directory of a song changes, SS can no longer find it (it would require a rescan).

Which means that your playlists are vulnerable to you "cleaning" your library and moving things around the HDD.
