Need help with making a passive preamp
« on: 2 Apr 2004, 12:28 am »
Hi all

Ok, I know "Pre-Amp"may be overstating it here but I'm going to rip my little Griffin Powerwave apart and add a pot to it and make a nice wood and metal case for it. I have no idea what pot I need or what is good. I think I need a pair of RCA's going to the pot and out from the pot to the RCA-in connectors of the Powerwave so I have an onboard volume control.   8)

Sounds simple enough... unless you've never done anything like this before with audio gear (getting adventurous in my old age). Anyone like to give me a clue as to what I might actually need and how to get it to work? I realise it's probably simple stuff once you know what you're doing, sadly I don't.  :(

I'd really appreciate any help I can get, and if anyone knows of a good supply of volume knobs to choose from that would also ge great.

I suggest that you go to diyaudio.com,and do a search for info on passive
preamps.I did a while back, and there is a ton of stuff on this subject. As
far as your idea of adding a volume pot,I'm sure if you post a thread there you will will get the help you need.

I would advise talking to Ed at the horn shoppe regarding his recent experience with doing this.

If you look at the horn shoppe forum, you'll see some information vital to your project.  Have fun.
