For that kind of money, I demand a clock on my over-priced, glorified clock radio.

I know someone who bought one (at full retail of course).  They loved it and I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, so I smiled and said things like "nice", "compact" and "no wires".

It sounded OK, but had no punch or real dynamics and no extended response, and my mind did race thinking about the various combinations of modest but sweet systems of receiver/amp, cd/dvd player and speakers I could assemble for $1100.

Think I'll fly out to audition. After all, wouldn't want to buy without trying it!

BOSE offers a 30 day money back guarantee so there's no reason not to try it. But keeping it for $1100 new, that's something else all together.

They could do worse, has anyone heard the B&W Zeppelin?

Heard it at the Apple store when I was looking for a clock radio attachment that would work for both iPad and iPhone.  Nothing but a bassy muffled POS IMO. I ended up getting a Stem clock radio, not nearly as much bass, nor not refined by any measure, but it doesn't sound bad.

Heck, compared to the WaveRadio, that's a relative bargain at $599.

Funny you should mention that Steve.

Klipsch VF-35, Denon's entry level receiver, Pioneer entry level BDP from Best Buy

Most bang for the buck system I've ever assembled brand new. Cost less than a grand all in all, including HDMi and spool copper speaker cables and banana connectors, as well as a surge strip.

It's definitely got it's flaws like whompy bass and unexpectedly dullish highs (not much sheen on cymbals) but when it comes to speech intelligibility, sung or spoken, or anything in the fat part of the midband, mightily impressive.

It made the Polks beside them sound like the cones were made of mud and the baffle was covered with a comforter.

Bose Wave? <<<<Cough>>>> The Blaupunkt dock stations eat them for breakfast and leave room to spend on a G-Shock :)
