Mono Block power output
« on: 29 Mar 2011, 01:40 pm »
Hello;

For those of you who own 7B-SST, 7B-SST2, 28B-SST or 28B-SST2 amps I was curious as to how much power your spec sheets rated each amp. I know with my 2 4B-SSTs and 6B-SST all channels come in a bit higher than the stated 300 watts per channel on the marketing literature. My spec sheets all read between 330-340 watts. I would also be curious as to how the 14B-SST and 14B-SST2 rate as well.

Thanks,

Rod

My Beasties² were both rated at 1280 watts on their specification sheets.

Be well...

My 7BSSTs have the following ratings:
1 – 647 Watts 8Ohm – Noise (Bal) 114db – Distortion .00264%
2 – 637 Watts 8Ohm – Noise (Bal) 118db – Distortion .00157%

Thanks. So those are a few watts more than each of my channels had over and above. So if 300 watts averages say 35, it looks like 600 watts may average 42 but with 1000 watts it looks like an enormous jump.

Interesting, thanks again

My 7BSST2 amps are 662 & 670 respectively. I should say that these amps have the latest upgrades (caps/transformers) and were not upgraded, came this way from the factory

Thanks for the additional replies. It looks like the SST2 amps spec out at a few more watts then the older SST models they replaced. I really like how Bryston tell it like it is and don't falsify the results.

If memory serves me correctly, one of our member's 28B SST² amplifiers are rated at 1300 plus watts.

It's been ages since I looked into Bryston prices but are they priced equally according to power i.e is the 14B-SST2 double the price of a 4B-SST2 and is it more or less the same price to get two 7B-SST2s as it would be to get a 14B-SST2? What of the 28B-SST2, is that more or less double the price of a 7B-SST2?

My 7B SST2's tip the scales at 660 W and 660 W respectively. The most unbalanced thing about my system continues to be me  ... :D

Looks like all Bryston's are conservatively rated on the power output.

My 2001 vintage 4B-ST is rated at 289 and 288 watts per channel into 8 ohms.

4B-ST's were advertised as 250 w/ch amps.

My KEF's are 6 ohm speakers, so I don't really know how many watts my 4B-ST is feeding them.

The 7B's have always been about $500.00 more than the 14 mostly due to the 7's have double the power supply capcitance.  The popular notion that the 14B is 2 7B's in one chassis is not quite true.
