IronKey USB drives on BDP-1?
« on: 28 Mar 2011, 05:11 pm »
I found out that the Iron Key flash USB drives use SLC memory in S200 series but noticed this:

When an IronKey drive is plugged into a laptop
or desktop computer, the user must authenticate
with a password before encryption keys are
enabled and data and applications are accessible. Unlike software-based encryption, the
IronKey Cryptochip does not export AES encryption keys to the host PC, thereby protecting
against cold-boot and malware attacks.

will these IronKey be useable on the BDP1?

Hi Dan,

That's a new one on me - will ask engineering.

Hi Dan,

My software engineer wanted to know why you wanted to use this particular drive as your paying a lot for the encryption chip? Is it the SLC chip you prefer over MLC?

I do not care about the encryption chip at all. From research I have done these are the only SLC memory flash usb drives on the market now. Other companies has dropped SLC all together in USB flash drives.  I would purchase the Basic S200 series, not the more expensive Personal or Enterprise series.

So are you assuming the SLC would sound better or just the longer read/write capability?

longer read/write plus longer life in general, not sure if there be any effect on sound

Hi Dan

Without trying one i can not be 100% but I see no reason why the drives should not work just fine. Also I would recommend reformatting the key to fat32 if you do have any issues.
