Of course I meant the nuts on your speaker binding posts.

If you are running any kind of speaker cable at all, with spade connections, it is very important to "tighten" the binding nut with a wrench.

Not so hard you strip the threads, but you'll probably be very surprised that they aren't really tight, if all you used was your fingers.

And we all know what "loose nuts" can do

What's worse than a loose nut?

A busted nut!!!  So don't over do it.

I've tried spade connectors with numerous amps and speakers, and always found that the connection would loosen easily, even after wrench-tightening. I've gone to using Audioquest banana plugs on my speaker cables, and they always fit extremely well.

But be careful- messing with your nuts too much can cause the sound to get overly "hard," sometimes almost "steely."

It's no joke. The theory I read, which sounds as plausible, or implausible, as any other audio theory goes like this. If the metal at the junction is highly compressed, many electrons are trapped in the distorted crystal matrix and cannot participate in conducting the electric current. Connectors should be only tight enough to make a good electrical contact. That usually means finger tight.
