V2 build from malaysia
« on: 18 Mar 2011, 01:17 am »
Hi
This is my second speaker from Danny.
I like  OB 5 a lot and because of the V2 sale, i jump on it. I expect the mid and bass to be better with V2 but the treble from Ob 5 is exceptional and hard to beat . Wait and see.
I will try to document the build and post some pictures.

I have no wood working skill and engage a carpenter who charge me about US 300 for the 2 cabinets and spray painting.
I use MDF and the side panel is 2 inches.

I need some pointers along the way.

The carpenter asked me regarding the fixing of the woofers this morning.
Do I want to screw the woofers on the baffle and then fixed the baffle to the cabinet or fixed the oblique baffle to the carbinet and then  screw the woofers .
Which way do you use ?

thanks

Complete the cabinet then install the woofers.

I finished my V2's about 6 weeks ago, using pre-built cabinets from Ruben (outofthewoods) which required installing the drivers afterwards.  Ruben had the drivers to help with the baffle cut outs and was able to mark up the screw holes for the woofers - this was a huge help, so I would have your carpenter do this for you.  When it comes to the woofer installation I used screws for the easy accessible front fixings, and bolts/nuts for the easy accessible rear fixings that are difficult to reach from the front.

You can get a better idea from the photos on the thread I started:

Good luck with the build - the V2's are a great introduction to OB's.

Yes, Sir.

Installing those drivers without pilot holes (or inserts) would be a MAJOR pain in the butt!!!

Hope he was able to do that for you KP.

BTW, We'd love to see some pics and hear your impressions when you get them finished. :thumb:

I will post pictures once i collected the cabinet .
I have given the drivers to him to make the pilot holes.
While waiting, I am going to run the caps in with a cap tie circuit. I have used this a  couple of times and work well.

Does any one know of a simple circuit to run the drivers in before installation ?
I have a class d amp running at about 10 W and intend to use radio broadcast.

thanks

Hi
After a protracted delay, these are some pictures
I need some comment on the layout of the crossover before i start soldering.
thanks

Your layout of the parts looks like it will work fine.

Looks like your cabinets are missing the lower woofer baffles though.

Also, be sure that you put a large radius on the back side of the through hole for the coaxial driver. I can't tell in the pic, but it looks like it may not be there.

Hi danny,
I would like to confirm the wiring of the V2.
For each left/right channel, I ran  2 live and 2 neutral from the amp---one of each this goes to the plate amp (SA1) high level in  + and - and the other set of live and neutral to the crossover  input.
On the plate amp itself there are 4 inputs for right and left. Which is the high level input and output ?
What does LFE stands for and what is the phase to set ?
When do i use the auto switch ?
thanks

There is not output. Both speaker level inputs are high level inputs.

That input by-passes the internal crossover and transform circuit. You won't use that input.

Set the phase to 180.

When do i use the auto switch ?

Just turn it to the auto on and leave it there. It will come on by itself when a signal is received.

Hi Danny.
Where are the output terminals ?
Why do i need 2 channel input for both the high and levels in one SA 1 ? Do i need  2 of the SA1 for  a stereo set up ?
Do i set the volume and frequency buttons of SA 1 by ear ?

Sorry for my poor understanding as this is my  first set up with a powered subwoofer.

thanks

The SA-1 has no output terminals.

The amp can be used to power a single sub woofer. So, for it to receive an input from each channel then it needs two inputs. So it has two high level inputs and two low level inputs to accommodate either.

In the V-2 application you will only need you use the input from a single channel.

Sure. It is only a single channel amp so it will give only power one speaker (or pair of drivers). But like I said above, for a sub woofer application (single sub) you can send it information from both channels. Then it will sum the two signals.

Yes, you can set them by ear.

Hi Danny,

More clarification.
Power amp ------------------------to  crossover input --------to Coaxial driver  tweeter and woofer .
Power amp -------------------------to one channel of the SA 1 high level input

Where do I link the the Eminence subwoofers? The subwoofer are wired in parallel ?
There is no output for SA 1???

Regards

Yep.

Or you can connect the SA-1 with the low level (RCA input) from your pre-amp.

There are no output terminals on the front of the amp.

On the back side of the amp there is a loose Red and Black wire with push on terminals on it. Those will connect right onto the +/- terminals on the lower Eminence woofer. Then from the second set of terminals on that same woofer you can run a parallel jumper up to the upper woofer.

Re: V2 build from malaysia ---placement of hi rez
« Reply #16 on: 7 Aug 2011, 02:14 pm »
Hi Danny,
I have only one piece of the Hi rez and i have tobe selective with regard to placement.

Which is the most critical area for the placement ?

I knock the panels and the most resonant areas are labelled in the picture.

The thick side panels are the least resonant  and is there great benefit in lining the Hi rez there. !
thanks for the guidance.

It's not Hi Rez, it's No Rez.

And the most resonant areas are the sides. And those woofers put a lot of preasure on the sides too.

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
Sorry about the mix up in name.
I have been thinking about how to play Hi rez files after building the Buffalo 2 from twisted pear !
