Guys...whats the difference in TRULY balanced vs. whatever you'd call Not Truly balanced....Is someone able to give me like the Flinstones version of what Truly means, is it that each channel is totally separate from the other??
I have a MP-1 here and it is by far the best preamp I have had in my system.Next weekend I should have the chance to directly compare it to a BAT Rex preamp. George
A balanced circuit is a specific type of circuit topology that basically has one copy of the amplification circuit for the "positive" phase and a copy for the "inverted" phase. The two halves are "joined at the waist" so to speak. The "true" designation means that the circuit is actually as implied by the term "balanced."
I'll be waiting for the full report after this weekend.
Might be a moot point since I bought a MP-1 today. Actually, I still want to to do the comparison, but I like what I am hearing so much that I went with the MP-1 when a deal came up that was too good to pass on.George
Well, did you get it? How does it sound? Do tell!!!
Ralph is giving it a final listen as I type and I will have it early to mid next week.I don't expect it to sound much different from the MP-1 I have been listening to for the last month or so. The only difference is that the unit I have been borrowing is using the standard Teflon V-Caps and my unit will have the Copper in Foil V-Caps.George
I must have missed it but who owns the MP-1 that you're using now?
A very generous fellow AC member.George
Is he selling it?
The only difference is that the unit I have been borrowing is using the standard Teflon V-Caps and my unit will have the Copper in Foil V-Caps.
The only difference? I think you will find a noticable difference in just the caps alone. The CUTF capacitors are very smooth with a bit more body compared to the TFTF.
I'm looking at replacing my Dodd Buffer with a truly balanced tube buffer or pre.
Looks like you guys are not into DIY. How about this http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=93374.0
It's not balanced.
