« on: 13 Mar 2011, 12:27 am »
What range is the remote supposed to have.  i changed the batteries but need to be 3-4ft in front of my B100SST for it to work.  is this a common problem?  any suggestions?

Agreed.  Somthing isn't right.  I have line of site across 2 rooms to the BP26 and can change the volume or mute it without a problem.

My Bryston BP-26 volume knob is within my left hand reach without effort, when seated in my listening chair.
I have the audio rack a bit out into the room at my left, with the powerline conditioners behind it. (So it is also easy to fiddle with the wiring)
Lazy you bet! I have the remote, but it sits unused on the shelf.

My remote works fine in terms of range.  I'd like to take a small liberty to add another issue to this thread's topic.

The problem I have is with the "5 key".  You have to press *hard* to get it to engage, and it makes a snap sound (as if it were a snap-type button on an article of clothing).  It'll be fine for a few seconds, but then can require another very hard press after as little as a minute, and most always after around five minutes.  No liquid, glue, or anything else has ever been spilled on it.

I just bought a used B100 and have this issue as well. The guy who sold it to me had Bryston fix issue in October, but it looks like the problem has returned.

James, any ideas about this?

Sorry no - I have not come across this before but it sounds like the button should be replaced.

I had this problem once with another remote.  I found that the button was sticking to the remote on the rim of the button on the inside.  Take the remote apart & clean it with some denatured  alcohol.  At least that worked for me.  Good luck!

I have to say my SP1 remote is the best of my whole lot. 20' feet away on an angle no problem....some times it works just by thinking about it  :thumb:

Thanks. I'll give the remote a good cleaning and see if that helps.

It's been two years of daily use but my BR2 remote hasn't missed a beat with the BCD1. Can't say for the bda or preamp, don't have them (yet). I do find that the battery life isn't as good as the remote with my BP25. That is still on the original cell for the last ten years. The BR2 would have been nicer with the 9v battery.

Just wanted to report that my remote is now working just fine after a little cleaning and a new set of batteries.
