Bryston & Proac
« on: 6 Mar 2011, 10:45 pm »

Good-bye Kef's and hello Proac.

These are my new Proac Carbon Pro 8's mated up to a pair of Bryston 28B-SST2 and all I can say is this is a match made in heaven.  The detail and realism is amazing and I now have bottom end that I can feel, which was lacking in the Kef's.  Kudo's to Proac for creating such a wonderful speaker.

I don't hear of anyone talking about or owning Proac around here, but I recommend giving them a listen if you have a chance and I'm certain you won't be disppointed.

The speakers are finsihed in Ebony with a high gloss finish.  I'm not usually a fan of high gloss finishes, but on these speakers with this wood, they are gorgeous.

I have some sound treatments in the form of bass traps for the corners being made and looking forward to getting them installed to increase the listening pleasure even more.

A close-up showing the hand-laid carbon fibre weave that makes the cone.

Next up is BDP-1 to finish things off for a little while...

Wayne.

Honestly... i think the kef's are a nicer looking speaker in your room. BUT and thats a big but..... nothing beats ribbons with Bryston in the sst/2 series. The Dali line of speakers are excellent match too and they resemble the the proac in driver and config. Love to hear it  :thumb:.

I also agree that the Kef's looked better, but I care more about function over form.  When I first brought them home and put them in place, they looked boring, but they've grown on me and the sound sums it up.  Kef's wins in styling and Proac wins in sound quality and presence.

P.S. I don't think it's the styling. It's the size. They're big.

After looking a bit more at them they seem to win over the room pretty good. They were a bit awkward at first but their finish is very relaxing. Really nice and they must sound excellent....nice choice  :thumb:

Hi Wayne,
Your ProAc are marvelous.  :thumb:
The finish is outstanding.
I got a pair of Response 1SC and they sound amazing with my 2B SST + BP25.
I'm a little jealous. Congratulation.

Nice, Wayne

I've got an ancient pair of Proac Studio Two's which I wouldn't part with for love or money...well, maybe for ENOUGH money...

I've always admired the imaging and full-range response of the larger Proacs.

Wayne, you got an amazing setup at home!  :thumb: :thumb:

I have heard both Kef and Proac but at different shop where the Kef was powered by an integrated amplifier and Proac with SET tubes. I have not heard these speakers with Bryston and I have always wanted to try them. I feel both Kef and Proac are on the warm side of presentation and its a pleasure for long hours of listening.

I curious if you have compared with speakers like Dynaudio or PMC and what do you think about them? There are no right or wrong answers here but would like your opinions  :)

Sorry, but I cannot comment on either one as I've never heard them.  My favourite audio house of choice is Absolute Audio in Calgary and they sell neither one.  I am a true believer that the Brits make the best speakers, so that would rule out Dynaudio and I've never given PMC a chance, but I've heard and read a lot of goods things about them and there are a lot of fans on here, so they must be good.

Not much help.

Wayne.

OMG they look awesome. I've only heard smaller Proacs and they sounded wonderful. I can only imagine what yours must sound like. Congrats.
