That is a really forward cosmetic upgrade.  They even look like a better bargain now.

Those Samson look impressive. Can't help think what an SRA platform would do for them ?

I use the SRA bases underneath my Atma-Sphere MA-1's.  While I know they make a difference compared to not having them on the platforms, I have never done any type of platform comparison.  The SRA platforms were part of the purchase when I bought the amps.

Now they look like this.  This guy is using some square footer thingy (green).

BRM, Did you buy the Samson amps? Or just giving them a test ride? Either way, I'd be interested in your feedback, as I have had my eye on these amps as well.

Enjoy,

Gary

Wouldn't it be nice to have Salk build a pair of Amp Platforms in the same wood as your Soundscapes!

Hi George

Visually  the Samson matte black finish and those custom sized SRA platforms would look good together. I am throwing the idea around on a SRA platform for my bda/bdp combo. They look good under black gear imo.

What do they for Atmaspheres, they look like they might add some more mid-range weight?

Did not buy or try.  You cannot get any units to try; you have to order them and wait.  That is a photo an owner sent me to see the new design.

Presently considering Herron M1's, Belles MB200's, McCormack DNA750's, Sanders ESL monos, Parasound JC1, some Krells, Classe's, and Parasounds stereo amps running in mono mode.

The Herrons could be on the light side at 275/4, not sure of the Belles model although Dave says this amp has much better components than the 350A's, the Sanders at 1600 watts would work but are very expensive, the JC1's are okay I guess, always wanted to try a Krell but don't trust them.

I Passed on a local sale of a Plinius 301 because I want monos even though that is a great amp.

BRM,

Have you (or anyone else for that matter) thought about going active with your Soundscapes?

A properly setup active system will trounch the passive version of any speaker.  I heard such a comparison years ago and it was one of my top five audio epiphanies.

And it might help in your amp quest if you can go big and brutish on the bottom and (as the Aussies say) light and breezy on top.

I am sure Jim would be willing to try this.  We have talked many times about making a full active or partially active set of speakers.

Well I cannot use the McCormack amps as the impedance is too low for my preamp.

I was within a hair's breath of buying some Sanders ESL mono blocks at 1600 watts each.

I have a guy who presently owns a pair of TRL Samsons and with all my traffic on Audiogon lately he emailed me to say he is moving to high efficiency speakers and will not need his high powered monos anymore.  So I am temporarily going to use these while I wait for the Samsons to come free:  http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstran&1305180999&/Ps-audio-250-delta

I have talked by phone with so many manufacturers and audiophiles lately it is not even funny.  All great people for sure, especially Keith Herron of Herron Audio.  But the folks who own my preamp and the matching Samson amps have more buying and selling experience than I do and they say the synergy is to die for.  So around the tree I go and back to targeting the Samsons once again.

BRM,

Thanks for allowing us all to follow your journey.  It has been great to learn about  all of the amps you have been looking into.  Some names I had never heard about and really appreciate your posting these considerations.

Best of luck to you.

You are not allowed to post here unless you show us some pics... hehe

The Classe mono blocks are the most interesting new amp product I have heard about. I have seen short write-ups but have not read any full reviews. Although these amps are priced over what I wanted to pay.

Anybody seen anything about these???
