Thanks, James, for making the time to do this.So here goes -- I understand the Mini Maggies have been back burned because of the need to get the 3.7's into stores. Any idea on when they'll see the light of day?
Thanks, James - & Wendell - for setting this up. (I hope you don't get swamped by the response.)I'd be grateful if you would find out from WD whether Magnepan is willing to supply XO schematics to, say, the facilitator of the Planar Asylum (or his deputy - ie. not anyone). The Planar Asylum ists XO schematics (including driver resistances) for many of the Maggie models ... but some are missing. In addition, there has been much speculation about the XOs used in the 1.7 and the 3.7 (particularly following a reported comment by Wendell that the 3.7 cannot be bi-amped) and a number of us are curious.Regards,Andy
Hi Andy, This is an example of the problem I alluded to in my opening letter. We are not able to do all that we should. We have to push this back until we deal with more urgent issues. And it is correct that the 3.7 can not be biwired or biamped. Wendell
Another thanks, both to you and Wendell. Very nice of you to spend your valuable time answering questions about Magnepan products. I am also curious about andyr's q. re 3.7 bi-amping. Also, has anything in the way of framing/mounting changed on the 3.7 from the 3.3 thru 3.6? Including the stile screws where I attach my (Mye ) stands?Best,Grant VanderMye

I have a question about magnepans. Are the bass panel pole pieces supposed to have a curve to them by design, or is it simply a symptom of the metal weakening over time. Or are/were some models designed like this and not others. If so why. Thank you for your time.-Greg
HiI do not think they ever used a curved driver topology - I will check. Are they an old pair and which model?James
Not curved driver, James. The mylar (the driver) is always flat but the "holey metal sheet" which supports the magnet strips (ie. the "pole piece") on bass/mid panels of IIIas and bass panels of 2.5s, at least, is slightly curved. So I think Greg is wondering whether this is:a) by design, andb) common to all bass or bass/mid panels?Regards,Andy
Wendell tells me: "It depends upon 1.7 and 3.7 orders. Dealers would be very upset if we started shipping Mini Maggies when we are not able to supply 1.7s and 3.7s in a timely manner. We had to stop Mini production until we get caught up. If I had to guess, I would say it will be sometime this summer before Mini production resumes-- business is that good."
