Software For Audio Convertion

Been thinking of getting into Bryston BDP-1.  What are the best softwares for converting CDs into FLAC, AIFF and WAVE files supported by the BDP-1.  Are they available commercially.

I use dbpoweramp - really good album art feature as well.

Sounds like you are new to this so, perhaps iTunes would be the easiest for you, just make sure you select the AIFF format (or Apple lossless) and turn on the error correction.   WAVE can be hit or miss for tag support (album art, artist, song titles, etc) so beginners might find it a bit frustrating to figure out the quirks.  If you want to do FLAC, then you need to look for something other than iTunes:

Here's a short list of cd rippers on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_ripper

Do keep in mind that most commercial apps will use open-source programs like cdparanara, lame, etc, so in the end almost all share the same guts, just a different facade.  Programs like Rip (sbooth.org) and Exact Audio Copy are great as they will also do a checksum online to give that one more level of confidence the rip was perfect and you can set them up to work with iTunes.

Without getting into any dispute about "how much information does vinyl hold".... I'd say 24/96kHz.... and this for the simple reason that in order to get an outstanding 16/44.1 you would need to have access to some pro gear and software to do filtering, noise shaping and so on.... 24/96 is much more forgiving so you won't need to do anything special...

I'm a big fan of Exact Audio Copy: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de which produces very precise and repeatable results. You can use this to produce most kinds of lossless and lossy formats; my preference is FLAC but alot depends on how you intend to listen to the files.

Alongside that you'll need to keep an eye on the tags, which many systems use to interpret what you've ripped; I use mp3tag http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ which provides both individual and batch conversions of the data.

Finally there's the album art to consider; I've tried quite a few over the years and kept coming back to 'album art downloader' at http://sourceforge.net/projects/album-art/ for it's combination of versatility and active development.

I don't know which is "the best" as I didn't do any extensive testing, but this one is excellent value for the money:

and has an old vinyl restoration thing too:

If you're also interested in video editing, you could go for this instead:

make sure you get the "Production Suite" version, and it will include Soundforge so you don't need to buy it separately.
