Saw this on the Bryston site.....Huge new ultra-low-noise power transformer
Wondering if I have that in my power supply?Serial number is 001270

Hi - no changes in the BP-26.

Hi,

just joined this fabulous forum, and new guy to Bryston gear, and new to audiocircle.

I need help, just bought a Bryston BP26/, and hooked everything up, and having a issue. (maybe user error)

the right channel, for some reason is making a hissing sound (like driving down the road w/ the window down) not very loud, but the left channel just find. (Balanced cable setup)

My setup : BP26 preamp and 4BSST2 amp, B&W 802Di, marantz CD player. mainly 2ch listening.

changed out all the cables, power/balanced and still no luck.

I hooked the powersupply to BP26 and both balanced cables from Amp, and hooked CD player to preamp.

did i miss something.

could someone shed some light on my issue.

Hi Dan

Work your way back from the speaker to make sure it is the preamp. In other words if you reverse the speaker leads at the back of the amp does the hiss change sides?

If yes then put things back to normal and reverse the preamp to power amp leads ... Does the hiss change sides?

If you have headphones plug them into the 26 and see if there is hiss.

Hi James,

did as what you instucted, no change. (speaker and balance)

I noticed, that it only affects the right side (preamp balance out)

if i plug in only, the right side of the bp26, the hissing sound is still present . and i tried reversing the plug in on the amp. Only affects right side (balnace out)

the left side, is fine, even reversing the amp connections, right to left speaker/amp connections.

any clues, why it only affects right side.

I have BP-26 and MPS-2. Is it ok to have the BP-26 placed on top of the MPS-2, to save one shelf in my rack?

Yeah, like my BP-26. I can say it seems funny that Bryston's preamp is a 'sleeper'. Not many reviews or web discussion on it. I personally decided to give the preamp a try when i wanted Magnepan speakers, and Bryston is one of the main names for amplification for the Maggies.
The additional factor was reading that a reviwer had a BP-26 in his own system. i thought he might know what he is using...
Anyway, once i heard the Bp-26/4B-SST2 combo i decided yeah this is for me.

Yes that is OK - I have mine setup the same way.

I dare you to find a decent review on mine, the Sovereign Director. I tried, I tried hard, but nothing...

Ive never found the BP26 to be a sleeper at all.....it does what it does and it does it well,but nothing about it overshines any other preamp in its price area.....esp when you start adding the MM/MC Phono stage and if you add the Dac then the BP26 gets expenisve.The phono stage is just "Ok"....in fact your better off getting the outboard phono stage.Ive never been that impressed with Brystons built in phono stage........just my opinion i guess,but i dont see their preamp(s) as sleepers at all.Their preamps get their due.

Sovereign Director, $15,000. used $9,750.
It is easy for a preamp costing FOUR TIMES AS MUCH to be better.
Now if it cost $800. and was better.

but that is the trick, isn't it?
If I had $15,000. i would buy an Audio Research REF 5 anyway...
Or maybe a pair of Bryston 26B-SST2 mono monsters.
Added: I have to disagree about the Bryston BP 1.5 phono stage. It is the cleanest, clearest i have ever heard. (but i am also using a $3,500 powerline conditioner. Bryston is just the closest to a wire with gain i have found.)

Hi,

The built in Phono stage is IDENTICAL to the external BP-1.5 phono stage - in fact it could be argued that the internal phono stage is better because it is directly connected to the circuit board.
